Recruiting is not a job. It's a lifestyle.

Recruiting is not a job. It's a lifestyle.

Recruiting is not a job, it's a lifestyle. Many times, you do not think, Hey I want to be a Recruiter and then start applying to recruiting roles. Rather, recruiting kind of finds you. I think something energetically and intuitively finds us Recruiters and tells us to come into the field. It's almost like since this recruiting industry interacts with so many people and affects so many companies, the field using law of attraction or some spiritual force calls out for people like us to join and somehow it just works.

Recruiting is not just a job. It's an artform. It's a lifestyle. You become entangled in a world of knowledge, communication and strategy that allows us to think of everything in ways never before.

In this field, it is very normal to receive private and confidential information and needs those that can listen and truly understand, digest and act in the best of ways. Recruiters learn about the goals and initiatives of executive teams and then they are tasked with finding people who executed strategies to complete such goals. From there, the Recruiters learn all about the strategies and the individual's execution as they interview these individuals who have done such things. You can just imagine, through all these conversations, a Recruiter truly absorbs and learns a ton!

Recruiters then work across every department and with every role that comes thier way, learning everything across all these managers they speak with and candidates they come in contact with. Sometimes, after a few jobs, Recruiters have worked across so many industries, depending on the company(s) they are working for, it's literally insane what is in a Recruiter's mind and what they know.

Over the years, with this compiled information in a Recruiter's head as well as seeing career paths and where people end up and how, Recruiters are then full of company strategy as well as career path information where they then are able to work with hiring managers & candidates on a whole new level strategizing: department growth plans, candidate career moves, etc.

Recruiters knowing what they know can make huge strides for so many across people's personal, professional and financial lives.

It is important to remember, when you are this knowledgeable and have an ability to build greatness by connecting strong talent to strong companies, the world really opens up to you and it becomes easy to fall in love with what you are doing.

Recruiters are essentially consultants who can work for any leader and bring about something remarkable....they can, based on company goals, build up the company with all the talent necessary to do such initiatives. Human Capital is what makes a company - a real company. And us Recruiters can make it happen.

Each day, different challenges and talent gaps come about and you become that someone that can bring about a solution through identifying the talent that can handle such challenges that arise.

The best part...with everything you learn as a Recruiter....Everywhere you go, you can help people. This is where its a lifestyle. Being the go to and know it all-esque person who can truly help just about anyone. It's a huge opportunity, responsibility and gift from above.

Teaching people how to get a job, how to perfect thier resume, how to interview, how to use linkedin, how to research a company, etc. etc. Recruiters become a go to resource for so many people, that it almost makes Recruiters each a jack of all trades and that is something that is just too much fun to ever leave.

The Recruiter Personality:

  • Recruiters want to know everything about everything and then some.
  • They crave to know the coolest tricks and tools to make thier jobs more productive.
  • They obsess about hires and have an almost non stop workaholic mentality to get every job filled.
  • They find ways to make things work for all parties on a level that is truly honorable: negotiating on everyone's behalf, essentially the angelic mediator for all seats at the table.
  • They are competitive within themselves to be better each day
  • They are strong in communication and know how to create relationships
  • They are intuitive, and empathetic.
  • They know how to navigate social norms, and social environments and pick up on cues

So, if you find yourself interviewing for a Recruiting role for the first time ever, maybe ask yourself, why did the universe choose me? Do I possess a lot of these Recruiter personality traits above? Then maybe, just maybe, you are born to be a Recruiter.

To all my dear readers, much love as always,

Daniel

Its being able to know how to talk to people on all levels whether your interacting with candidates or supporting your customers; the Hiring Managers up to the C-Suite! Are you born to be a recruiter? No..Not everyone is cut out to be a recruiter! Like every profession, you have to build out your brand, style of doing business, niche areas you will recruit in, earn the credibility from people you represent and support, keep learning new ways to do your work, challenge yourself and so much more!! I have worked in the Recruitment/HR industry for over 3 decades and was one of the first technical hardware specific recruiters in Silicon Valley humbly I share that with you. I have seen many changes through the years, watched the landscape change and grow in the SF Bay area. Still LOVE this work. Yes you have to be empathetic and know how to read people too. The gift of what a recruiter can offer people is "tremendous", however its not for everyone! There are some Amazing recruiters out there right now who are still out of work due to being laid off and are wanting to land their next job! There are recruiters in jobs right now who sorry to say suck in their roles and should be displaced and move to another field! Not 4 everyone!

Recruiting might be a calling, but let’s not romanticize the grind. It’s rewarding, sure, but the 24/7 lifestyle you mention can lead to burnout if boundaries aren’t set.
