Recruiting in the Heavy Equipment Industry

Recruiting in the Heavy Equipment Industry

Herk & Associates began in 1998 at Jim and Judi Herk’s dining room table. Since then, we have grown our business to almost 30 team members, our client base has steadily expanded, and we have continued to adapt our recruiting methods to ever-evolving hiring challenges.

While much has changed over the last 20 years, our focus and mission has remained the same - we are experts at a human-first approach to recruiting and we actively connect the heavy equipment industry with individuals who will make the difference.

Why partner with Herk & Associates?

Our industry knowledge:

Hiring success relies in great part on your recruiter’s knowledge of your industry and business structure. Educating your recruiting partner on what you do can be time-consuming and inefficient.

Herk & Associates understands the roles, dynamics and organizational structures of heavy equipment dealerships, manufacturers, and rental companies. Not having to explain what a service manager or regional sales manager does, for example, helps us get a running start.

Because our team works with and is familiar with a wide range of heavy equipment industries, including construction, agriculture, trucking, material handling (and many others), we spend less time learning your business and more time focused on your specific needs and finding you the right candidates.

We keep the focus on people:

Career changes are life changes. Because we understand this, we do not take a transactional approach to recruiting. Our human-first focus means that we work directly with your team to understand your organization and what you are looking for in a new hire. Understanding who our clients are and who would thrive in their environment, helps us identify those candidates whose motivations and demeanors align well.

We value collaboration:

We are here to be your partner throughout the hiring process. At every step along the way, we strive to create a communicative and collaborative environment so we can gather your feedback to adjust our searches as needed. We maintain this same goal of partnership and open communication when contacting candidates to understand their needs.

The purpose of this first article is to give you insight on how we apply our human-first approach to the recruiting business. We plan to publish more content with this perspective in mind. By creating informational material that is focused first and foremost on real people and real-life experiences, we hope to empower individuals, on both sides of the hiring process, to make career decisions that they feel fulfilled and inspired by.
