Recruiting Community News - August 2022

Last week I talked to a leader in our Community who has been in Talent Acquisition for?less than a year. "Nothing like joining TA at a time of crazy uncertainty!" he joked.?But the truth is, TA is always uncertain. Whether it's a reorg, a merger, challenging economies, or a pandemic,?I don't believe there is?such a thing as a?sustainable "calm period"?within the realm of talent acquisition leadership.
As someone currently studying Stoicism, I'm reminded of something Seneca (the Younger) , a Roman Stoic philosopher, is credited with: "The whole future lies in uncertainty: live immediately."?In short, we are to embrace the uncertainty in our lives and become comfortable with being uncomfortable.
At the time of writing?this letter to you, the uncertainty for many of us includes the surprisingly strong July jobs report from the BLS in America, massive layoffs and hiring freezes within global tech sectors, and yet another health crisis on top of the ongoing COVID pandemic - just to name a few things.?And yes, each of these impacts the daily life of recruiting and talent leaders everywhere.
And while there's always chaos,?optimism abounds.?In our recent CareerXroads pulse check on hiring trends, it seems many of you are?bullish?about your hiring levels and year-end business plans as we approach the mid-point of Q3. And in our recent CXR-hosted Recruiting Economics discussion , we heard from an economist who believes this looming recession we all keep hearing about is likely to be fairly mild.?(We've invited Mr. Flowers to present in person at our upcoming Chicago Leadership meeting in October.)
My response to the new TA leader was that he couldn't have found a better time to join the ranks of Recruiting.?After all, if we knew how everything would play out, our jobs would be quite boring.
To wrap up this month, and before I share some fantastic links and headlines, I'll leave you with this thought from Ryan Holiday , author and the owner of my favorite book store that's just down the road a bit from our new office: "A future you can't predict is central to keeping you learning and growing."

CXR Headlines: Technology in HR
A recent article by?People Management ?explores how much of a role technology should have in HR. It’s something we’ve also been discussing here at CXR as part of the?Transparency in Recruiting?movement – most recently in our?Transparency in AI: A Member & Alumni Discussion, ?where we sat down with HireVue, Sapia.ai, and HiredScore to dive deeper into the topic.
The benefits of technology in HR are pretty clear: actionable analytics, more efficient recruiting, and in many ways, improved candidate experience, just to name a few. With recruiting rec loads as packed as ever, is AI a reliable way to relieve the pressure? We think so – with just a couple of caveats...

2 年Hmm,...perfect time to join the recruiting industry. The industry over a period of coming five years stand to become reduced with 50% on the basis of HR Tech and all its might becoming better and better why there quite frankly will not be that much use for recruiters! as either the industry will themselves change, or the change will be done to them. Add to that a challenge which is becoming more and more widespread, the ability to simply being able to find anyone who may be available or around to change jobs. Sure The Big Shuffle will continue, but it is long term not sustainable.
