Are recruiters really that bad?

Are recruiters really that bad?

Since I started working in recruitment almost 3 years ago, one of the biggest things I've noticed is the stigma that's attached to the industry. My friends constantly roll their eyes and ask why I choose to do this for work and I always answer the same thing; "because I love it".

They say if you find a job you love, you will never work a day in your life. I stand by that and love what I do; no two days are the same, you get to talk and meet people that you never normally would and let's face it... the money is great!

It's a known fact that the industry has a bad rep and this is because most people have a horror story about a terrible recruiter or agency and there are regular scandals about recruiters behaving badly (thanks Oleg).

The first thing to know is that we are not agents for job seekers. We are hired by companies to fill open positions. We're not paid to find you a job, we're getting paid to fill a job. That’s an important distinction.

A lot of people don't realise what recruitment actually is and they think that all we do is sit at a computer, ignore candidates that call, send CV's and never give feedback and spend our lunch times getting sozzled on G&T's. Now as much as I wish this was true, there's actually a lot more that goes into it...

The biggest part of our job is dealing with candidates; our amazing, weird and wonderful candidates. These can come in a variety of different forms:

  1. The Ghoster
  2. The uninterested
  3. The overpriced
  4. The rude
  5. The lost at the interview
  6. And many more..

Just remember that recruiters are normal people. We're here to do a job and just because there's a small percentage of recruiters out there giving us a bad name, you shouldn't tarnish us all with the same brush.

It costs nothing to be nice and hey, who knows, you could even make another contact in the industry that could benefit you in the future :)

Mollie - apparently a recruiter.

The key is to love what you do and get paid for it.As Donald Trump would say "Somebody's got to do it"

Tradespeople are not recruit's a recruit is somebody who is hired to follow a superior qualified persons technical directions , although some companies call it labour hire . A Labourer is somebody who is unqualified in any trade but physically fit and capable of doing manual labour required as directed .
