Dear Recruiters
?Now we are heading to the step 2 – Ports
?
Why are harbors important for the development of OZE?
·?????Ports are crucial for the development of renewable energy (OZE), particularly for offshore projects, due to their role in the following key areas:
?
1. Transportation and logistics:
Ports serve as hubs for transporting OZE components, such as wind turbines from manufacturing facilities to project sites.
They also facilitate the transportation of equipment and personnel required for installation, operation, and maintenance activities.
?
2. Staging and assembly:
Ports provide large areas for the staging, assembly, and pre-commissioning of OZE components before they are transported to their final location.
This helps to streamline the installation process and reduce costs.
?
3. Operations and maintenance:
Ports serve as bases for vessels and personnel involved in the operation and maintenance of renewable energy infrastructure, such as offshore wind farms
This includes activities such as monitoring, repairs, and inspections.
?
4. Decommissioning:
Ports will play a role in the decommissioning of renewable energy infrastructure at the end of its operational life.
This includes the dismantling and removal of components and infrastructure.
Examples of port usage in OZE projects:
?
Poland:
Port of Gdańsk: This port has already been used for OZE-related activities, serving as a staging ground for the construction of a wind farm in the Baltic Sea.
Port of Szczecin and ?winouj?cie: This port has the potential to support future OZE.
?
?Gaps and challenges:
Poland lacks specialized harbor infrastructure dedicated to OZE, such as heavy-lift quay walls and specialized vessels* ( offshore ships – you can read about it in my article)

Here you have a link to quay walls explanation – so you can get familiar with it.
Further investments in port facilities and equipment are needed to fully support the development of the Polish renewable energy sector. Well and we have to act real fast if we want to play a role in the race for the green energy in offshore. This takes years and it’s incredibly expensive
?Current State:
?Ports with potential: Gdańsk, Szczecin, ?winouj?cie
?Development Timelines:
Developing dedicated OZE infrastructure in Polish ports could take 5-10 years, depending on investment levels, regulatory approvals, and construction complexities. However, smaller-scale upgrades and utilizing existing infrastructure could see initial OZE projects commence within 2-3 years.
?? Learnings for recruiters and companies
Now it’s the time do develop a skilled workforce to support future ports development.
We have to look closer how many schools do we have and how many students it’s educated or would be to remain in Poland and maintain ports operations. What is our policy to attract students to work in Harbors ? How much do they know about OZE and offshore opportunities in Harbors in the near future…
?Importance of education = Recruitment strategy elements;
?You have power to;
? Meet students on job fairs, and make them aware if they don’t know what’s next…
? You have power to inform your organizations – as this is your future of recruitment make sure you will have proper competences to recruit from.
? Your managers should appreciate that you know that we have a problem; they are quite often present on important meetings, seminars, conventions; ask them to make an impact.
?We know that to make Energy Transformation in Poland we are missing from 200 to 400 K people
I hope this would give you the proper scale of the problem, and indication for smart solutions.
?? If you have your own ideas or comments do not hesitate.
Strategy in recruitment = our responsibility = market engagement
I hope this post finds you well!
