Recruiters and their bad reputation

Over the years, we've heard from candidates and clients who say they won't work with recruiters because they believe fees are too expensive, or they simply don't trust agencies. However, it's important to note that not all recruiters are created equal.

If you search for "Recruiters are" on Google, you may come across some negative connotations such as "trash," "pushy," and "shady." But we believe that with the right approach, recruiters can be a valuable resource for both job seekers and employers.

There is a bad reputation for several reasons, including:

  1. Lack of transparency: Some recruiters are not upfront about the details of the job or the hiring process, which can lead to misunderstandings and frustration on the part of the candidate.
  2. Pushy or aggressive tactics: Some recruiters may come across as overly aggressive or pushy when trying to fill a position, which can turn off potential candidates or clients.
  3. Lack of follow-through: Some recruiters may not follow through on promises or commitments, such as returning phone calls or providing feedback after an interview.
  4. Focusing on quantity over quality: Some recruiters may prioritize filling positions quickly over finding the best candidate for the job, which can result in poor hires.

Several steps can be taken to solve this, such as:

  1. Be transparent: Recruiters should be upfront about the details of the job and the hiring process, including salary, job duties, and the timeline for hiring.
  2. Build relationships: Recruiters should focus on building relationships with candidates and treating them with respect and professionalism despite their title or seniority.
  3. Provide feedback: Recruiters should provide feedback to candidates after interviews, even if they are not selected for the job.
  4. Focus on quality over quantity: Recruiters should prioritize finding the best candidate for the job, even if it takes longer to fill the position because just as much as the client needs the right candidate, the candidate needs the right client.

By taking these steps, recruiters can build a positive reputation and attract top talent to the organizations they represent because candidates can eventually become clients.
