Recruiter Spotlight. Meet Charlotte Dawtrey

Recruiter Spotlight. Meet Charlotte Dawtrey

Each month, we learn about a recruiter from a different desk and their experience at Capio. Charlotte is an empathetic and friendly recruiter on the property law desk who recently passed her probation.

Can you describe your journey at Capio so far and how long you have been here?

I have been at Capio coming up to six months now. I was completely new to recruitment, so my journey goes through stages of intense learning, applying what I have learned, and getting back to learning. I have points where all the learning has clicked, and I realise I am doing well in my job thanks to the training.?

?

What truly motivates you in your career?

Something you should know about me is that I am so competitive and a perfectionist, so this environment is perfect for me. I want to be at the top of everything I try – it takes time to become an expert in recruitment but that is what drives me to keep going.

?

What skills do you have that help you build relationships with clients and candidates?

I am empathetic so I think that comes across. Sending people to the right places for them means a lot and it takes a lot of patience as well. I am able to listen to people’s problems and respect their choices.

?

How can you describe the culture at Capio?

Lots of energy – every day goes really quickly, everyone has some kind of buzz going and everyone also thrives off other people doing well so there is healthy competition and a positive environment. It feels very genuine working here.

?

What do you advise someone who wants to be a recruiter at Capio?

Listen to everyone around you, and ask questions everyone here has a different style of recruitment so keep an ear out for anyone on the phone. Listen to how other people do it - in my first book of Capio I have a list of phrases that I have overheard around the office that I wanted to bring into my work as well!

?

What part of the recruitment process do you find the most challenging??

Post-placement relationships - maintaining the relationship for the months between placement and start date is not easy and it comes down to being very organised.

?

What do you find interesting in the property law industry?

Moving is a big part of people’s lives and conveyancers pride themselves on that so good conveyancers have fantastic client service skills, meaning they are really nice people to work with

?

What is a recent hiring trend in conveyancing recruitment?

Definitely the rise in flexible roles. That doesn’t mean fully remote anymore but they want to have the option to work from home so it’s important for firms to have that.

?

What are employers looking for the most now?

I have spoken with employers that look for good fits for their team, it’s more important for them to hire someone who can maintain the culture. People do really look for a good personality fit as well as great skills.

?

What are candidates looking for now in the current market?

Candidates are just more specific about what they’re looking for, they know what they want more, and they are not afraid to ask for it.

?

What is a career goal you have now?

A long-term career goal is to be at the top of my game and be successful within the industry.

?

Tell us something about you that we don’t know.

?I can do a perfect headstand - is that interesting? Not sure but it's definitely a skill.

?

What do you like to do outside of work/hobbies? Any work-life balance tips?

?I love cooking for people and playing netball. A tip for work-life balance? Planning your day and know what you want to achieve or have a goal in mind
