Recruiter or Hiring Manager?

Whenever I conduct workshops, I ask people who should they reach out to when they see a role they are very keen on.?

The majority of people respond with:

The Recruiter or HR

Let's break that down!

On average, any job posting receives 250 applications (Glassdoor survey report 2018)

A full-time recruiter typically handles 40-60 roles or an HR will be hiring less roles but another scope of work.

So, if we do the math, a recruiter is working with 10,000-15,000 resumes. They just don't have the bandwidth to reach every person or even respond to people who approach them.

On the contrary, a hiring manager gets 5-10 target CVs after HR screening for the 2-3 roles they are hiring for in their team. They are also heavily invested in making the best hire as it directly affects their team's performance.

And that is precisely why, reaching out to the hiring manager or someone at a level above them makes all the difference.

Now, the strategy is simple but it is all in the execution.

A generic or AI-generated message is going to have ZERO effect.

Writing a short message to the hiring where you will be able to tell them how you can add value to their specific need takes a lot of research and thinking.?

And you know what - that is why this is so effective. If everyone applying online could do it, this would stop working!
