RECOVERING YOUR PERSONAL SCEPTRE
In this week leading to Charles coronation we, like King Arthur of old, can investigate retrieving the Seven Golden Keys and thereby reclaim our Personal Sceptres.
Next Saturday, with his coronation, King Charles will ceremoniously wield the royal sceptre. Now I'm reflecting that this symbol of sovereignty is ultimately something we can all recover. It is something infinitely precious that belongs to each one of us. Without this we will not be able to enjoy the full experience of life that is our birthright. We might not fully understand what it is, and even that it belongs to us.
King Arthur
This is like the young King Arthur who by accident pulled the sword from the stone — indicating that the sword was his in the first place and so proved his rightful place on the throne of his kingdom – without realising it.
Personal Sceptre
I will now call this powerful element of birthright your personal Sceptre. The royal sceptre was the ancient staff of authority of Kings of old. Now I've come to realise that your Sceptre is not handed to you at birth – it is a potential birthright that you have to claim. And the journey to its reclamation is not easy. It takes courage, persistence, endurance and faith. But the promise of all arcane teaching is that if you keep on the quest for the rightful reclamation of your personal Sceptre – you will achieve it.
Jesus, the Great Teacher, said; “The Kingdom is within you and around you.” And to the disciple Peter he said;
“To you I give the Keys of the Kingdom…”
What could he have meant?

Whilst I appreciate Pope Francis, surely there is another way of interpreting this, other than that of the Catholic Church's view on the authority of the Pope?
Personal sovereignty
For me the Sceptre is your symbol of entitlement to your own personal kingdom - your inner sovereignty. It is within you as a representation of your deepest potential. This is a potential even deeper than you are capable of realising at this time. In a way you can see it as your Divine Character.
Martin Luther King
Martin Luther King made his famous ‘I have a dream’ speech that electrified America and the world. In that speech his vision encompassed children walking together hand in hand and being judged not by the colour of their skin but by the 'content of their character'.
Bringing your deepest, your Divine character, fully into the world, and the unique experience of meaning and purpose that accompanies it, is about reclaiming your Sceptre.
The philosopher and sociologist Sam Keen offered words to this effect:
"Somewhere between your unique gifts and the needs of the world there is to be found an interface called joy."
Hidden in the forest of life
Here possibly is the key – your personal Sceptre is reclaimed in the process of full engagement with the world. Imagine your Sceptre was hidden deep in a forest. You have the capacity to get there – but you must brave the forest and all the challenges and opportunities you will encounter in it. You have to live your life to your fullest potential possible – because your Sceptre will only be found in living your life fully.
Seven golden keys
In the forest of your life I imagine Seven Golden Keys. The keys to the Kingdom, said the Master, are both within you and around you! Do you seriously wish to start the quest of reclaiming your personal Sceptre? In this week leading to Charles coronation, in a daily series of posts we, like Arthur of old, will investigate retrieving the Seven Golden Keys and thereby reclaim our personal sceptres.
Is there a parallel concept of being active as a kin[g]dom builder. ie 'being 'In Christ' or being a disciple with Jesus as an enduring example . Which seems to suggest ever more strongly that our Christian language about eternal truths must evolve as speedily as contemporary life when Materiality and Spirituality are in harmony. Peter Challen

1 年"Somewhere between your unique gifts and the needs of the world there is to be found an interface called joy."...reminds me of what you mentioned a couple of weeks ago with regards to balance. Balance (joy) is an ongoing process of handling uncertainty, complexity and the unknown (probing, sensing...)

1 年I won't be watching, nor pledging allegiance, but as you highlight, this is an extremely important juncture for all people to connect to their personal sovereignty and to consider from where (their) authority originates.
