?? Records can't stop being broken in the NWSL

The 2023 NWSL season saw attendance records shattered and the youngest players drafted go even younger. This year, the attendance records continue to climb, and the rookies are making names for themselves. Are there any other records you're looking forward to being broken before the end of the season? What's the next step for your favorite club?

  1. ? Croix Bethune — Washington Spirit: Selected third overall in the 2024 NWSL Draft, Croix Bethune took no time at all to acclimate to the professional scene. Her first goal was crucial in a late 2-1 win over Bay FC, and more impressively she dealt three assists in a 4-2 win over Chicago Red Stars to become the youngest NWSL player to record that many assists in one match and the first rookie to do so. What we can’t get over is that she actually broke the rookie-season assist record (7, passing Trinity Rodman) and leads the league with 8 currently… and the season is just getting started ??
  2. ?? Lynn Williams — Gotham FC: A long-time record held by Sam Kerr—who hasn’t played in the NWSL since 2019 — has just been broken by Gotham’s Lynn Williams. Days before her snub from the USMNT call-up, Williams broke the all-time scoring record with the 79th league goal of her illustrious career. While Christine Sinclair is third on the list, she’s not likely to catch up (62), but depending on Alex Morgan’s career length, she is 4th at 62 and will likely climb to that 3rd spot before the 2024 season is over.
  3. ?? Orlando Pride: An incredibly impressive feat, the Orlando Pride broke a record that hasn’t been touched since 2014 by the Seattle Reign—the longest win-streak. The record for consecutive wins was previously 7 in Seattle’s 2014 season, and Orlando extended their win-streak to 8 this past weekend defeating the Portland Thorns 2-1.
  4. ????♀? Sophia Smith — Portland Thorns: Sophia Smith on the stat sheet is a given this season. At just under 24 years old (WHAT), she became the youngest NWSL player to hit 40 goals in the regular season. At the same time, she contributed to 50 goals across all competitions. She’s so good she brought breaking two birds with the same stone to life by topping two records in the same game: scoring 1 and assisting 3 in a 4-0 win over Seattle.
  5. ?? NWSL: Who doesn’t love attendance records being consistently broken. The season-opening weekend saw 4 games boasting more than 10k fans, and sell-outs are becoming almost normal in a few markets. Houston Dash (8600), Washington Spirit (11,734), San Diego Wave (32,066), and Portland Thorns (19,857) all broke home-opener records. While Bay FC is new to the league, their inaugural home game welcomed 18,000.Even though the Chicago Red Stars are consistently on the bottom of this trend, they are aiming to break the single-game attendance record (34,130) with their upcoming game at Wrigley Field on June 8.
