With over five months still to go before the FILA LAKE GARDA 42 marathon and half marathon take place on Sunday 6 April, registrations are already heading towards a new record. For the LG21 half marathon there are only around a hundred bibs still available before registrations will have to close, while the number of competitors due to run the full marathon distance has already reached 1,400. Female participation is skyrocketing: over 60% in the half marathon and 38% running the longer distance will be women.
Following the success achieved last spring, when 4,200 runners lined up on the start line, the organisers of the FILA LAKE GARDA 42 set themselves the ambitious target of reaching 5,000 participants, split equally between the LG42 marathon and the LG21 half marathon. With a full five months still to go before the fourth edition of this event that winds its way along the northerns shores of Lake Garda, the half marathon is already well on its way to being sold out, with only 100 bibs still available. And there’s also a lot of interest in the full marathon too (both races are certified and form part of the FIDAL calendar), with as many as 1,400 participants already registered, close to the total number of starters in last year’s race.
However, the most striking statistic is the number of female athletes due to take part. There are currently 1,400 women registered for the LG21, around 500 more than the number of male participants. The first three editions of the FILA LAKE GARDA 42 had already shown just how much this event is loved by female athletes, but the current registration figures are surpassing all expectations: of the total number of runners registered for the two distances, the percentage of women is more than half (52%) and the absolute number has already surpassed that of 2024 (1,900 registrations compared to 1,750 in the last edition).

“Having such a significant number of women competing in our event doesn’t surprise us but it makes us very proud, because we’ve managed to appeal to a section of the public that is, generally speaking, less competitive than their male counterparts, but which prefers to enjoy the all-round experience that a race event can offer”. Patrizia DEISSENBERGER PEDERZOLLI from Communico Italia, the lead organiser for the FILA LAKE GARDA 42.
As has now become customary, the FILA LAKE GARDA 42 will welcome runners from all over the world: for the last edition the foreign contingent made up 75% of the total number of registered athletes, representing over 70 countries from five different continents. For next year’s event, Germany currently leads the way with 29% of registrations, followed by Great Britain on 16%; Italy is only in third place with 8%, a position it shares with Poland. The renown of the event has also reached Scandinavia, with 6% of current registrations hailing from those countries, a figure that has increased with respect to previous years, partly thanks to the increased marketing activities to promote the FILA LAKE GARDA 42 event in northern European countries.?
