The name Ernie Pyle may not mean much to most people today, but in 1944, Mr. Pyle's on-the-ground reporting from the Normandy coast provided a vivid view to American readers of what was happening during the D-Day battle. Unlike today's 24-hour access to information, people relied on newspapers to provide descriptions of the happenings across the Atlantic.
