Recommendation of the week!
Recommendation of the week!
I've used all sorts of to do lists, team management, collaberation apps such as Asana, Jira with Confluence as professional apps, then the likes of Google Tasks and Microsoft Tasks integrated with the calendars, I was recently using Apple iOS Notes (as a giving up on to do apps point), I went through a whole list of different to do apps like Things, Remember the Milk, Evernote, Todoist, Toodledo, Todotoodoodaloo and many more for months on ends switching between each, either finding they didn't support what i needed or just that they raised the costs and subscriptions.
I went through a whole list of different to do apps
I found through using all these that there was a list of things I needed, personally for myself to work and 'get things done' as well as have somewhere to lay my notes.
1. Easy to Navigate and Manage from Apple, Windows and iOS as well as in any browser, so to be compatible amongst all.
2. I needed the to do list to give me the ability to move items up an down with my finger on iOS, I like to move up into a seperate list what im doing that day.
3. After I got back into the 'notion' of wanting to use a calendar so I can oversee what I wanted to do that day I needed the app to either have a calendar I can follow or integrate with Google, Microsoft, iOS Calendars.
4. I wanted a place for my notes as well as my to dos list.
5. I wanted it to be easy to navigate allowing me to put the main to do list at the top followed by additional to do lists at the bottom.
6. Finance, I was wanting a note taker that I could use to add tables and put in my financials.
Bonus points for...
1. It would be all in one, I hate using lots of different apps to get the effects of what I need but I was willing to have it integrate with other calendars or use it just as a to do and have my save docs within another app (maybe iOS notes).
2. It would be more than a to do list, it would let me add notes and attachments, I was previously using evernote and later notes for this and because I wanted all ion one, I used them also as a to do list in the end but it difficult to freely move them as I wanted.
3. Finally... I needed it to be free, forever or at least a small monthly cost for additional features, I didn't want to be using it and suddenly NEW SUBSCRIPTION UPDATE and then im having to pay £29.99 a month to get that extra heavily needed element that I was originally using for free.
I researched and researched some more, went back to Asana, moved back to Jira and back again as these were the closest to what I needed but I was also still using between Evernote and iOS Notes to carry my notes, Confluence with Jira was just too much and not integrated well enough although they're part of the Atlassian package, Evernote just got too bulky and I got lost in the navigation, I don't want to search my notes, I want them just there, visible.
Then I kept reading about Notion. At first glance I thought it looked a bit black and white, whats with the characters, but first things first I downloaded it on all devices to see how it would work, investigated if it had the basics of what I needed, it did and more and I created a bogus to do list.

But as I was doing all this I kept finding new things, "Oh it does this..." and got a bit of a wow moment throughout, so I discovered and Im in no way affiliated with Notion, just overwhelmed by it, I can't believe this exists.
So if Asana or Jira had a baby with Evernote, they would create Notion.
I found through Notion I can organise and place in all my notes, that was a great starting point, I can have them just how I used to have them in Evernote but more....
I could add my To Do List, as if I was creating a collaborative to do list like in Asana or Jira, I didn't need to add all the bells and whistles they had, but I had that option and more, I could add Status, Due Dates, Created Dates, but found I could add my own properties and if statements as well as additional filters.
But this just got more amazing when I discovered I could have the options to switch between and view daily within a List, calendar, Board, Timeline, Table, Gallery. It was like whatever way you wanted to view your to dos, it was already implemented as choice.
Then I thought ok, I got my Notes, got my To Dos in a list, calendar, whatever I wanted, as many as I want. Then thought well if I can add tables or whatever I want to notes, why not add my financials in a note, I did and them found them to be like Google/Windows tables where I could sum up the costs at the end of table, automatically as well as add in equations.
So this app just got big, it looked small but it's HUGE, I just needed to switch everything on that I wanted and just like there tagline, it does it all, everything in one workspace plus I can add banners and cheesy little icons of my own if I wanted. It has everything I needed.
So now i'm using the s**t out of this thing to help control my life and work and it's become the best thing, so much so that I came on LinkedIn to give them a review, unpaid, but maybe if they see this they'll give me a like.
I'm also doing this so more people are aware and will use it, I highly recommend not only switching yourself to Notion but switching your team to using it. It can be as big or as small as you want it.
