For those who have not watched it yet, the movie, “Jim Allison: Breakthrough” is an interesting documentary about Jim Allison’s journey of finding a cure for cancer, which ultimately led him to win a share of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2018.??This movie depicts the obstacles that he faced to advance his science focused on the immune system as a mechanism to kill cancer and furthermore the challenges to eventually commercialize his therapeutic through Medarex and Bristol Myers Squibb.??It also showcases the determination of this scientist to continue to believe in his idea even while many other experts did not and find a way to move his research forward.???Along the path towards commercialization of his therapeutic, there were others that had to champion the product in order to overcome barriers.??It is not only the story of Jim Allison, it is a story of the breakthrough of immunotherapy, and it is a story of ipilimumab, also known as Yervoy. I highly recommend this movie to all.?
