“Canada Day”
July 1, 2024
By Kimmy Foulds
Commemorating the birth of Canada as a nation on July 1, 1867, the author recognizes tribute to the valuable country where she lived many years and holds dear in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, as the maple leaf flag waves high symbolizing strength, unity and peace for continued friendly grace.
In 1868, Governor General of Canada Lord Monck signed a proclamation that requested all of Her Majesty Queen Victoria's subjects across Canada to celebrate July 1st as Dominion Day.
Following World War II, there was a growing desire to emphasize Canada's national identity so in 1946, a member of Parliament proposed renaming Dominion Day to Canada Day but it wasn't until 1982 that the official name change occurred.
Happy Canada Day today with harmony, goodwill, glee and laughter with a salute of O Canada by a Canadian indie pop band from Burlington, Ontario, Canada, Walk off the Earth.
Enjoy smiles with cheerful times and revel in genuine fun, fellow Canadians!
