The Reckoning
2 weeks ago, if some one would have said, “Everyone in the world will be locked down in their homes! There wont be any macaroni and TP around in all the land! The streets will be bare in NY!” I would have laughed out loud and continue eating keto bread. On the other hand I am not completely surprised.
Many have had the feeling, the abstract carnival facades of contemporary society with its frivolous self absorption and empty distractions was going to face some sort of reckoning. A heightened sense of decay beneath the shiny veneer of this consumption driven world was bound to extinction. I mean how much karma can a society of spoiled self righteous patrons burn though (I am taking about myself). Could it get any worse? Yep, and it did , when a earth quake hit Salt Lake, and the trumpet fell from the golden angel on top of the temple.
I was in the midst of re-stacking TP and elbow macaroni, in my PJs when my daughter called with the message that “a 9 point earth quake would hit in 30 minutes, to get out of the house with our emergency kit!”. I ran passed, the couch, crystal and designer handbags bags with one shoe on, looking for water, food, blankets. It turned out to be a hoax but it taught me what is essential, much like the stores where the candy and quinoa isle is stacked high, but the essentials like rice and beans are empty.
Here we are, all of us in this quiet space, collecting our thoughts, remembering our roots and our loved ones. I feel like we are in the silent eye of the storm. The un winding winds of change is upon us. So so many good people out there, together we are stronger, together we will make a difference and together we will make it though.
This is our chance to re think, re solve, and recalibrate. The cleansing of carnal facade is happening. A new way is emerging. Our generation will carry this burden together and we will make it right. Though we walk though the valley of shadows, fear not. The great spirit is with you and in you. We will weather the storm, where we go one, we go all, my friends

Nevertheless, the deeper lessons of our current existential crisis are spiritual; they speak to our essential interconnectedness and fundamental interdependence because thanks to this virus, we can no longer pretend that we are separate, even though, ironically, we are being asked to separate."
