After a much-needed break, I returned to my routine with a renewed sense of purpose and energy. Time away from the daily grind not only recharged my physical batteries but also gave me the clarity to refocus on what truly matters: my relationship with God and my family.
Recharging: A Necessity, Not a Luxury
Taking time off from work is often viewed as a luxury, but in truth, it’s a necessity. We pour so much of ourselves into our work that we sometimes forget to refill the well. This past week reminded me that when I’m running on empty, I’m not just less effective in my job—I’m less present with my family, less attentive to God’s voice, and less in tune with my purpose.
During my time away, I found myself reaching for the Bible more frequently, seeking not just rest but also spiritual renewal. Psalm 23:2-3 says, "He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul." This verse became a cornerstone for me, reminding me that true rest and restoration come from the Lord. It was in those quiet moments with God’s Word that I felt my spirit being refreshed, as though I was being led beside those still waters, finding peace that the busyness of life often steals away.
God and Family: The True Priorities
Work is important—there’s no denying that. It provides for our families and gives us a sense of accomplishment. But it’s easy to get caught up in the demands of the job and forget that work is not the end goal. God and family must always come first. When we prioritize our spiritual well-being and our relationships at home, everything else falls into place.
This time, I didn’t just passively acknowledge this truth—I actively realigned my life to reflect it. Ephesians 5:15-16 encourages us to "be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity." I realized that the most important opportunities are often not the ones that appear in our calendars but those quiet, everyday moments with our loved ones. I spent this week intentionally reconnecting with my family, making the most of those opportunities. We prayed together, laughed together, and simply enjoyed each other’s company without the pressures of schedules and deadlines. It was a powerful reminder that my success at work means nothing if I’m not successful in my roles as a spouse, a parent, and a follower of Christ.
The Power of Personal Recalibration
One of the most profound aspects of my time away was the opportunity to recalibrate my own heart and mind. In the hustle of work, it’s easy to lose sight of our true north. But when we take the time to step back and align ourselves with God’s Word, we find direction and purpose that far surpasses any business strategy.

Romans 12:2 tells us, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." This verse became a guiding light for me during my time off. I realized that personal recalibration isn’t just about resting; it’s about transformation. It’s about allowing God to renew our minds so that we can see our lives—and our work—from His perspective. This renewal process involves a deep dive into Scripture, prayer, and reflection, seeking God’s wisdom and guidance for every aspect of life.
Bringing the Balance Back to Work
As I step back into my role with my sales team, I do so with a renewed focus. My time away has given me the perspective to lead with balance, ensuring that while I push for results, I do so with the understanding that my work should never come at the cost of my relationship with God or my family.
This balance is not just about managing time but also about managing the heart. It’s about recognizing that my ultimate purpose is not tied to quarterly results or sales figures but to living out the calling that God has placed on my life. When I lead with this perspective, I not only become a better leader but also a better servant to those I’m called to serve.
One of the Scriptures that resonated with me during this time was Colossians 3:23-24: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters." This verse reminded me that my work, while important, is ultimately an act of worship. When I approach my job with this mindset, it transforms my daily tasks into opportunities to serve God and reflect His love in the workplace.
In Closing
Recharging is more than just resting—it’s a recalibration of priorities. It’s a chance to step back and ensure that we are not only doing the right things but doing them for the right reasons. My prayer is that as I move forward, I’ll continue to keep God and family at the forefront, knowing that everything else will follow in its rightful place.
Let’s remember to take those necessary breaks, to recharge not just our bodies but our spirits, and to always put God and family first in all that we do. The Bible offers us the wisdom and guidance we need to live balanced, purposeful lives. When we allow ourselves to be renewed by God’s Word, we not only find rest but also the strength to lead with clarity, compassion, and conviction.
