Musings on 2022
Over the past few weeks, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on everything that is happening in our country right now.?

Since the leak of Alito's draft, I have been feeling sick to my stomach. It's so noxious to know I'm living in a country that thinks so little of women. In, 2022, we're staring down the barrel of 51% of the population losing autonomy over their own bodies.?
All women deserve the ability make their own decisions about healthcare and their bodies. Full stop.?
Beyond this basic fact, here's the piece of the conversation that gets drowned out. The economic impact of this decision will be devastating.
Here are some facts to consider:?
-92.4% of all US Childcare workers are female?(Data USA)
-Women make up 89% of teachers at public elementary schools and 60% of public high school teachers (USA Facts)?
-Women account for 92% of all nursing home workers and 84% of all residential care workers (Statista)
From literally the cradle to the grave, women are the backbone of American life.
Now, will all these women need to leave the workforce because of this decision? No. But there will be an impact. Many women will die from miscarriages or back alley abortions and others will be forced to stay home and raise children that in some cases, they are unable to provide for.?
Women across the labor market will be impacted, but industries that skew female will be particularly hard hit.?In my eyes, this change in policy is a sure fire way to not only set the clock back 100 years, but to ensure the economy, already hobbled, is unable to recover.?
Ultimately, what we need is a government that reflects the makeup and will of its people and not a government seemingly hell bent on punishing women and minorities.?
If you've been looking to tak wondering how to get involved, consider running for local office, donating or volunteering for women and BIPOC candidates fighting for a similar vision, or donating to your local abortion fund.?
