With over 60,000 Linkedin contacts in Pharma and Med Device, I assure you I am an expert in what I'm about to share with you as I have interviewed thousands over the past 10 years and I have my pulse on the industry, unlike anyone you've ever met.

The pharmaceutical and medical industry has been changing and downsizing for years, going from about 500,000 reps 10 years ago to about 70,000. If you're over 35 or have over 3 years of experience in the industry, there's a slim to none chance you'll get another pharma job unless you have oncology or rare disease experience. Don't forget to share this with the stay at home spouse who thinks you can just "go get another pharma job." Several of you are probably bored anyway because you are intelligent and all college-educated, mostly with MBA's now and tired of being a glorified caterer. My "ah-ha" moment was when I went to my doctor who wrote me a prescription that I launched in Pharma. I recommended or "influenced" him to write that drug 15 years ago and he's still writing it. My lightbulb went off. Every time he wrote a prescription for my company. I got the short term win (a nice salary, expense account, company car) The bigger picture was that my pharmaceutical company got the residual component (the much bigger and longer-lasting income) every time he wrote a prescription for that drug. With what I do now, I still make recommendations to physicians for their patients. The difference is, I make the residual income now and I'm building an asset I can will to my children. There's nothing better than waking up and going to work with total freedom and autonomy knowing that you have the BEST boss on the planet - and only YOU can fire YOU!
