Recent Hazards of Real Estate

So I had a busy day last week. Really busy. In the morning, I was up in Sandusky touring a commercial building so I could render a Broker Price Opinion as to what the property would sell for. Then I was in a completely different area checking out some residential property.

I was waiting for an adjacent property owner to come home so I could ask him if I could enter his property and see what I could see of the subject property which was completely overgrown and virtually impenetrable, at least the way I was dressed. I was parked on the neighbor's property, but just barely with the nose of my vehicle pointing toward the street. I was on the phone (as I often am - Real Estate requires heavy usage of the phone). You know how it is when you are engaged in a phone call - it's not easy to politely end the call even when it might be a good idea to, right?

Well, this vehicle pulls up to the stop sign directly opposing me. A guy steps out of his vehicle and quite resolutely heads for me with his hand reaching for his sidearm. He never pulled out his firearm, but he was clearly threatening. I congenially asked him if would be okay to access his property to see his neighbor's property who said he’d be okay with it, and without another word, he said “No, access it from the other property.” I said, “Alright, thank you.”

What else was I going to say? I don’t think he took Dale Carnegie’s class, “How to Make Friends and Influence People,” but you know, he probably was having a really bad day. So, I don’t hold it against him at all. In fact, I hope to make him my friend in the future. Time will tell.

Anyway, that’s probably the closest I’ve come to anything serious. But I have had some other experiences as a Realtor - one in particular comes to mind that happened when I was showing property. Maybe I’ll share that one next week.

I like what the great Pastor John Carter once said: “I’m invincible until God is done with me.” So I take it God is not done with me, so I can still help you if you need anything real estate related. Feel free to call anytime!
