Our second New Year Planning session kicked off with hard truths and deep self awareness! If you attended, you know what I'm talking about. If not, here's the recap and don't miss the last session on Monday, December 18 at 6:30 PM.
Session 2: What lessons are you taking from 2023?
We all instantly think of the bad that has happened and sometimes get stuck in a cycle of self-judgement... "I should've, could've, would've..." But I challenge you to dig deeper. What is a deep meaningful lesson that will amplify your purpose and support your vision for 2024? It could have been brought to light by circumstances that didn't go well or it could stem from something that went really well. Consider the full spectrum of possibilities. Here are a few themes that came to light last week.
Procrastination has a price. We typically associate a high cost with something we are doing, but not so much when we are not doing something. Lets change that... think of procrastination like the interest on a debt. The longer you procrastinate the more debt you acquire. The longer you wait to start that project, the less time you have to do the project. In addition, the longer you wait, the more mental stamina it takes to get started. Procrastination feels safe, but it's more akin to being locked in a cage... Even if you feel safe, like nothing can touch you, remember you also can't reach anything you desire.
Next year be conscious of when you are procrastinating and what the root cause of the procrastination is.
Embrace the seasons of life. Life is nothing more than a series of changes that you can either fight, accept, or embrace. Each season has it's own distinct traits. Think of the four seasons of the year... the weather changes, the fruit is different, plants bloom or leaves fall, behaviors/moods vary, clothing choices adjust, and the list goes on. Like the seasons of the year, you must flex to the seasons of your life. You don't wear a winter coat in the summer. You may need to shed something in your life to prepare for the growth of spring and the heat of summer.
Next year try to flow with the seasons of life and see how this approach benefits your wellbeing and productivity.
Don't forget to savor every moment. The hamster wheel of life is hypnotizing. It is almost like we could do much of our routine with our eyes closed. The issue is when you don't stop to open your eyes and see all that is happening around you. You miss the accomplishments. You miss the relationships. You miss the beauty in the every day and that bleeds into all of the special moments as well.
Next year, take time to be present and to appreciate your world. Be intentional about bringing your attention to where you are, who you are with, and what you are doing.
