Deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Developer Content Creators and Online Communities Summit in Singapore. Not only was it my first time in Asia, exploring such a vibrant and diverse city-country, but it also provided a chance to reconnect with Manuela Castrillón and a project that had been waiting for some time.
The moment arrived to launch Devcheck.co, our podcast offering a fresh perspective on the technologies we're passionate about. We recorded the inaugural episode directly at the event, eagerly awaiting its release to share with you all.
This cultural adventure was quite a lot to digest, and I'm still processing the entire event. Thank you for your patience and understanding regarding the delay in sharing more details of what's to come ??.
A brief introduction to Singapore:
A city-country where at least 4 cultures thrive: Chinese, Indian, Malaysian, and Eurasian. It boasts 4 official languages: Mandarin, Hindi, Malay, and English. A highly connected city, with payment options that facilitate acquiring products and services.
Walking in Singapore ??????♀? means encountering busy businesspeople, unique architectural buildings, and dreamlike urban landscapes where lush greenery blends seamlessly with geometric designs ??. Everywhere you turn, there's street food waiting to be discovered, whether tucked away or in plain sight, from street stalls to mall eateries ??.
Singapore leaves a lasting impression on the palate... and curiously, temples nestled in between. You take a stroll and there they are, one temple after another...Singapore, you are truly exuberant.
#FunFact: They don't have Uber; a similar app is called Grab. The currency is the Singaporean dollar.
What struck me the most was its architecture, with intricate details in every building and corner, a sentiment echoed in its gardens and flowers. While English is generally navigable, Spanish alone won't suffice here.
The tech-adventure #GoogleDCOC
Google handled all the event logistics, picking us up early from the hotel to have breakfast at Google Singapore offices, where the 3-day event unfolded.
On the first day, we used Grab; Manu set up her account to test the app's UI/UX and facilitate our mobility, as we decided to accept an invitation for a Kopi and Hainanese Kaya breakfast. - Thanks again Tamas P.
The event took place at a venue called the Developer Space, where community meetups and GDG Singapore chapter gatherings occur. It's simply incredible to have access to these facilities.
The kickoff was led by Alicjia Heisig-Chiarello and Dirk Primbs, the day previous to the main event. We had the pleasure of spending time with, Monika Janota , and Alessandro Paimieri, who ensured the entire experience was memorable. They introduced us to an amazing and charismatic leader at Discord, Adriana Angelini .

??? You can review the full event agenda here.
We began by exploring the entrance area, where all the Google community programs with their missions and visions were displayed. It was beautiful to see how each of the communities was represented.
Of course, We took the official photo on the main stage before recording our podcast.
"Flex your creator Muscle" was a spectacular keynote by Stephanie Wong , where she shared insights about the "valley of death" and two key points in content creation: Start with an audience and Apply Storytelling. You can watch it live here.
Another great talk was by Tra Nguyen , "Create a winning strategy for your Youtube Channel" - [link]
We had typical Singaporean food for both the breaks between sessions and lunch, providing an incredible opportunity for networking and connecting with others from different regions.
We loved the energy and meeting these two Italian personalities based in London, whose ChatGDG podcast deeply resonated with us - ChatGDG creators' intro Stefano Le Pera and Arianna Capizzi They undoubtedly provide great coverage of events and interviews with very interesting people. If you want to see my part in their podcast or Manu's, here they are Marian II Manu.
We couldn't attend Adri's session, but the feedback was immediate, no doubt due to her excellent communication and stakeholder relations. If you want to review it, you can watch her presentation here, highly recommended: [link]
On the way to the studio, we had the opportunity to see Madona S. Wambua , a great community leader, I follow her closely and It was wonderful to see her in person and capture the moment; thank you for your incredible talk, energy, wonderful lessons, and time you shared with us.
Please follow Madona, her podcast, and check out her talk on impostor syndrome: [link]
And then, the long-awaited moment arrived: recording our podcast at Google Studios, and so Devcheck was born ?
We'll soon share it with the community for feedback and ideas on the topics they'd like us to address directly in our project ??????
We're very grateful and happy to start this project, to participate in this space with +48 countries and 150 developers from Europe and Asia, mostly.
And to represent our country, Colombia, in these Asian lands, and be part of the nearly +30 WTM Ambassadors who were part of the event.
Thanks to the new friends we made along the way; see you soon, or at least we'll hear from each other. Google for Developers Women Techmakers Google Developer Experts ??
This is amazing, well written and I enjoyed your company. ???? Hopefully we will meet again ????
