Recalibrate the wheel

Recalibrate the wheel

Talent management is all about the power of people fueling is organization to drive and create a competitive edge in growth. As time changes, the strategies need also to be changed and it should be tailor-made and not just a copy-paste exercise. It has become highly complex and challenging.

Every organization has its own USP. People's power is to be aligned with that. This whole alignment is a challenging task for HR because, identifying, hiring, onboarding, and allocating, are one part of the strategy, the second part is creating a positive employee experience, providing psychological safety, recognizing the performance, creating learning and development opportunities, and caring for mental well-being, which is more challenging.

Research studies have indicated that despite having a well-oiled talent management strategy, organisations face silent attrition of talent mainly because of unrealistic performance expectations, workplace stress, burnout, uncaring leaders, limited growth opportunities, and so on, which indicate that somewhere you have the talent but could not protect and nurture them, it fell apart from the alignment wheel of talent management. Lack of calibration reflected.

So, while keeping an eagle's eye on the alignment and recalibrating process which is ongoing, HR should understand that at the end of the day, money matters even if it is not a panacea. Sometimes, it works as a glue, bringing in fold the disillusioned employees. Shifting to high tech is silently creating low touch which in turn creates low engagement. Keep a check on this and maintain balance because listening and understanding employees is the need of the time.

Even after having a robust talent management process, you may face a setback at any time because of certain uncertainties and ambiguities in business. To address that, work on expanding your talent pool. You can look at non-traditional like existing contractual and gig employees and women employees who have taken a break in their careers to meet family needs and care. The net point is to think out of box and recalibrate the wheel of talent management. It may bring transformation by creating a positive and engaging work environment.
