Increasing digitalisation opens countless fantastic opportunities for businesses and organisations, such as increased innovation, efficiency gains, and strengthened competitiveness. There is great optimism about all the opportunities that digitalisation and new technologies bring and will bring to Sweden, both from government and business.??
At the same time, there are other forces at work; cyber-attacks have become increasingly frequent and sophisticated, placing a great deal of responsibility on businesses and organisations to protect themselves. If this fails, the consequences can be severe.?
Declining Confidence in Cyber Security?
According to “Tomorrow Report – Cyber Security” from Nexer, Swedes' confidence in the ability of businesses to protect themselves against cyber-attacks has fallen by five percentage points since 2022, from an already low 24% to 19%. Why is this the case? One reason could be that we are seeing an increasing number of cyber-attacks with increasingly serious consequences; another is that cyber-attacks have received greater media attention. Cyber security is a complex topic that few people are familiar with, and people are therefore more inclined to generally accept the picture reported in the media. This can, of course, affect trust, especially in the companies affected, but also in the business community in general.?
What is Needed to Boost Trust??
As with digitalisation in general, raising awareness and developing the skills of the public is an important part of building trust. Skills upgrading needs to take place at all levels of society and across a wide range of professions, in both private and public sectors.?
Another important aspect is the importance of secure digitalisation. This is always a business management issue. It’s about business risk management that must be taken seriously in all companies and organisations, large and small.?
