Abstract
Western countries have been criticised by the African youth for a degrading attitude, pointing to concerns that Africa is being colonised again, this time by a new coloniser named China. One key aspect the Western world often needs to grasp fully is Africa's cultural and historical ties with China. The relationship between these two regions goes far beyond just business transactions. A shared history of trade, cultural exchange, and mutual respect dates back centuries.
As we look towards the future, it is crucial that we learn from the mistakes of the past and work towards building strong, mutually beneficial partnerships. The key is approaching these relationships with an open mind, being willing to listen and learn from each other, and being committed to fostering genuine connections based on respect and understanding.
By breaking free from the constraints of Western-centric thinking and embracing the diversity and richness of global perspectives, we can collectively unleash the potential of Africa's relationships with China and the rest of the world. It is time for the younger generation to move beyond outdated stereotypes and prejudices and create a new era of collaboration and cooperation that benefits all parties involved. It is time for a new way of thinking, a new way of doing business, and a new way of building relationships that transcend borders and bring us closer together as a global community.
The relationship between Africa and China is multifaceted beyond mere economic ties. To fully appreciate the potential development available for both regions, it's essential to delve into the demographic, cultural, and historical dimensions that shape this relationship.
Demographic Reality
1. Population Growth and Youth Demographics: Africa has one of the youngest populations globally. With over 60% of its population under 25 years old, this means nearly 780 million young and dynamic individuals.
This youthful demographic presents a significant development, innovation, and growth opportunity. With its vast experience managing large populations and technological advancements, China can play a crucial role in harnessing this demographic dividend.
2. Urbanisation and Infrastructure Development: Africa and China are experiencing rapid urbanisation. China's expertise in infrastructure development can assist African countries in building modern and adequate cities, transportation networks, and energy infrastructure to support the growing urban populations.
Cultural and Historical Ties
1. Ancient Trade Routes: The historical Silk Road connected China with various African regions, facilitating trade and goods, ideas, and cultures. These ancient trade routes laid the foundation for the cultural exchange and mutual respect that characterise the relationship between Africa and China today.

2. Shared Values and Worldview: Africa and China value community, family, and collective well-being. This shared worldview forms the basis for understanding and cooperation between the two regions.
3. Cultural Exchange: Over the centuries, there have been exchanges in art, literature, music, and philosophy between Africa and China. This cultural exchange enriches both regions and fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of each other's heritage.
Beyond Business Transactions
1. Strategic Partnerships: Beyond economic cooperation, Africa and China can collaborate in education that is not colonial, healthcare, technology transfer, and environmental sustainability. China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) offers infrastructure development and connectivity opportunities, benefiting African economies.
2. Mutual Respect and Understanding: Mutual respect, understanding, and trust are the keys to a successful partnership. Africa and China should approach their relationship with an open mind, recognising the diversity and richness of each other's cultures, histories, and perspectives.
3. Learning from the Past: It's essential to acknowledge the mistakes of the past, including instances of neocolonialism or exploitative practices, and work towards building a relationship based on equality, mutual benefit, and shared prosperity.
Moving Forward
1. Diversifying Partnerships: Africa should rely on more than just China and diversify its partnerships with other countries and regions. This diversification will help mitigate risks and create more opportunities for development and growth.
2. Empowering Local Communities: Development initiatives should focus on empowering local communities, fostering entrepreneurship more than the current Western development aid approach, and creating sustainable livelihoods. This bottom-up approach ensures that the benefits of cooperation are felt at the grassroots level.
3. Promoting People-to-People Exchange: Encouraging tourism, student exchange programs, and cultural events can further strengthen the ties between Africa and China at the grassroots level, fostering friendships and understanding among people.
It is worth mentioning that the relationship between Africa and China holds immense potential for development, growth, and mutual prosperity. By embracing the shared history, cultural ties, and common values and approaching this partnership with mutual respect, understanding, and openness, Africa and China will forge a new path of collaboration and cooperation that transcends borders and benefits both regions. It's time to embrace a new era of partnership that celebrates diversity, fosters innovation, and brings us closer together as a global community.

How then do countries and regions approach the common need for the investment from China within the disparate country needs? The African Union is
