Running Hot
It's March already, go us! The year has well and truly ramped up, and if you're here in Hong Kong it feels like we've woken up from a very long hibernation period. The borders are open, as of today the masks are off, and business is back. Revenge travel and revenge partying are top of the agenda, and we're loving life.?
All things to be super excited about, yet a lot of us are struggling to incorporate all the things we used to take in our stride, while also maintaining some of the balance and healthy habits we'd built over the past three years. To borrow a phrase from IT, we're "running hot" in terms of the energy we're investing in bouncing back, and there's a risk of burnout.?
That's why this month we're focussing on downtime. Regardless of where you are in the world, as we near the first 90 days of the year it's important that we switch off, restore and reboot.?

The power of the reboot
"Have you tried switching it off and back on again?"
If, like me, you were working in the noughties, this was a running refrain from IT support. We may treat ourselves like machines, we're increasingly augmented by machines, but we're actually far more complex. One thing we do have in common though, is the power of the reboot.?
Yes, it feels like the year just got started, and yes there's a lot to get done, but we're all better for periodic training. Whether it be in the gym, with stress management, or even as a way of reminding ourselves how much we appreciate our relationships and those around us, periods of intensity followed by rest?increase our performance, energy, and engagement.?
So if you have the opportunity, take a few days off, switch off, and reboot. Go on holiday, change your environment, and nudge yourself into relaxation. There's a strong case for doing nothing in terms of creativity, emotional awareness, and connection.?
Ideally we have rest periods scheduled evenly across the year, but let's be real, life gets in the way. So if you can't take a block of time off, experiment with some of the below quick fire ways to achieve your reboot and come back fired up:?
As for me, I'll be practicing what I preach and spending two weeks off the grid, chilling with the crew and spending some time underwater ?? see you on the other side!
Life is short. Until next time take care, stay safe and be kind ??
