Rebellion Part 1: The Sin of Divination
"For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry."
1 Samuel 15:22a,b
1 Samuel 15:22, a & b does a great job of describing how rebellion is like the sin of divination and idolatry. Rebellion is the process of resisting authority, control, or convention. This means that you have difficulty being under authority. Rebellion can be a way of maintaining control instead of being controlled. They may be because the authorities you grew up with were not good, or reliable. The Bible says not to provoke children to anger
"And fathers [and mothers], do not provoke your children to anger; but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Ephesians 6:4
When parents aren't able to do this you can be rebellious against authority. Or you may have a rebellious core that automatically sets you up against any sense of being controlled. And as an adult, you may not be healed. You may continue to struggle with a need to be in control. This can manifest itself in refusing to submit to anyone, even proper authorities such as your boss, your pastor, or even your husband or wife.
Rebellion can lead to hardness of heart. This will then cause you to shut down feelings and shove your problems down deep inside. If you don't deal with them, you won't be able to allow yourself to feel for other people. It may then seem easier to not feel anything than to deal with your problems. Being delivered from rebellion will make it easier to walk in the fullness of God's plan for you and your marriage.
