T'is the season. I post this every year as a reminder to myself of where I've been and where I'm going. This animation (animatic treatment) is what started my writing career and gave me the bug to write. From it I got a Hollywood literary agent who worked with Niel Simon, before I ever wrote a script—which is normally unheard of—based on her seeing my potential through my artwork. The reason… It was a labor of love to create the art for it.
Just like my book, I got a book deal based on the cover design alone before I ever wrote a word, now that passion to create my art has turned into a purpose to help others through my writing. Most things of worth come from passion first which is my point here. Where passion goes, money flows… eventually. And if it doesn't, then it doesn't matter because your purpose should always be bigger than money.
I was the pied piper when in the creation of this animation, but, I didn't create it on my own either. Several friends chipped in for the same reason as I, which included professional music, lyrics, programming, consulting and voiceover. We all had fun. That's where I learned the power of using humor to lead and inspire people (and in this case to work for free) because they also could see my vision! That was the precursor to my sales career.
Rebel Without A Claus was inducted into The Museum Of Radio And Television archives as an early pioneering work on the internet (hence the roughness of the animation). The screenplay, with the same title, was given a recommend by Disney, optioned by a production company for Showtime and considered by STARZ Media out of Canada. The title song even played on the radio here in California on KLOS..
When I wrote the screenplay, along with my writing partner Dorian Martin, it was well before I got into sales. Ironically, the villain in the story, Phil MyPockets, takes over Christmas with a very elaborate re-gifting pyramid scheme... where all of the gifts get given back up to the next person and so on until all of them go to back up to Phil! Only no one can see it because his convoluted plan is so confusing.
Ironically, today, I sit atop a network of hundreds-of-thousands of people around the world. No, I am not Phil MyPockets. I have come full circle and choose to hone my craft and influence to help others... which is how "Giving Candy To Strangers" came about. Enjoy... (if you are on an iPhone or iPad, this was created in Flash ...so you will not be able to see it) ENJOY
