Continuing my previous Article on Middle Management, am trying to understand possible reasons for Top Leadership which prevents them from taking timely actions for middle management persistent issues.
- Leadership becoming complacent : It can happen that leadership feels they have achieved what they wanted to & now can successfully detach from its results now. They prefer the second generation to take lead & do as they wish to even if that means without relevant skills.
- Leadership wants it Safe & only have Yes Men around : Given the situation, background of the leader/company there can be leaders who feel they are going through a rough time & hence for a time being they want a close knit team who just says Yes to everything.
- They consciously want some Products/Teams to be weak : This can be a strategic move where they are looking to keep some teams under the pressure so they can extract more or maybe eliminate them as requested.
- They are not aware, ignorant : Though its difficult for me to fathom but can happen when distance between Senior, Middle & lower management is high also in startups where Senior Leadership has alot on their plates already.
- They are not able to see through People, lies, deceits : Again difficult for me to fathom but is possible if the senior leadership lacks basic human reading capabilities.
Their traits must not be permanent rather ready to break through + evolve as situation & time changes.
Am no where implying that I will be a perfect leader when I become one but its always good to know the traps leadership commonly falls into resulting into their Middle Management to cause chaos.
