The Reason Why You Still Haven't Done That Thing Yet.

Things take time. And time is precious.
My understanding of time is that we cannot escape it no matter what. Time keeps moving forward with or without us.
With any kind of goal that I set for myself, I always have to remind myself that I need to be PATIENT by understanding that anything big takes time. ??
While also moving with FIERCENESS every day like that one thing I do today will be the thing that gets me to my goal.
But, where it's easy to get stuck is looking at something we want to do deep down, but when we see how much effort it would take, we label it as IMPOSSIBLE for US.
We place ourselves in a special category where we allow ourselves to be an EXCEPTION from reality.
We tell ourselves that we don't actually want to do that thing, but when we picture ourselves doing it, we LIGHT UP inside??
If that EVER happens to you, you need to RUN towards it with everything you've got. Imagine yourself doing that thing, and then fall in love with the PROCESS of doing that thing.
Imagine if you were that person who did that thing - who DOES that thing. How dope is that?? This is something I keep reminding myself. I need to stop telling myself I'll do that thing "next year" or "later" and actually take steps to do it TODAY.
This is exactly what happened with making myself go to #toastmasters.
Toastmasters has always been in the back of my head and on my bucket list but I always told myself that I'll do it EVENTUALLY. ??
I also pictured myself completely failing and being the worst person in the class.
THAT visualization is the wrong kind of visualization.
I needed to picture myself speaking clearly and calmly in front of these people. They aren't strangers, but a supportive community.
It's all in the STORY we tell ourselves.
If we think it's impossible then we will never try and it will never happen.
"The only impossible journey is the one you never begin." - Tony Robbins

5 年Great article! Sometimes I find myself in the same window looking out, viewing my goals from a distance getting all cheered up of the possible success. But I realize I am still looking out the window hoping that my move will rise! I have to then bring myself to reality and continue to show up every day and make it happen. #showup ?

5 年I love the author’s honesty in this piece! That negative internal dialogue can be a real pain in the backside! This article also reminds me of the idea that we sometimes feel we’re making ‘big moves’ just by reading about, or watching the content of others who are dynamic! When in fact we’ve just spent an hour on YouTube! I’m much more alive to this now and love Marie Forleo’s advice about “create before you consume”. I can say (for once) I’ve actually done that today! ?? 2 vlogs on allyship ?? Kia Ora!
