The reason it is time to get high..
meetmagic is a for purpose business.
In Australia, there are over 20,000 social enterprises operating across all industries of our economy and delivering positive social, cultural or environmental impacts directly or via the income streams they derive.
Alongside social enterprises, there are a growing number of ‘profit with purpose’ businesses, including the rising movement of Certified B Corporations, all of which are making a meaningful contribution to tackling social and environmental challenges.
These social enterprises and businesses all need capital at the startup phase as you would imagine, While some social enterprises may start off with philanthropic grant capital or be seeded from within a not for profit organisation, others including profit with purpose businesses may look to impact investments from investors who are interested in early-stage companies.
It's been a really lonely journey because we have bootstrapped our way to trying to make a difference, one meeting at a time, and albeit small at the moment, our target is to donate $250m. There is a rush of dopamine every time we connect an executive for a meeting.
As a "for purpose" business we are making "better use" of existing sales & marketing budgets that IT companies and technology vendors and service providers allocate to growing their markets.
In return, we "deliver them a service" in the shape of meetings with C level executives.
Now please bear in mind, many, if not all executive's today are taking vendor/supplier lunches/dinners, even paid for overseas trips, corporate box sporting events which are all paid for by the same companies, using the very same marketing and sales budgets.
Our business connects people for early-stage discovery meetings and we redistribute a large portion of that sales and marketing budget (our fee's) back to charities.
A little bit like how Robin Hood redistributed money from the rich to the poor.
As a for purpose business, we help make the world a little better with each meeting by
1. Donating 50% of our service fees to charities. {it is not 50% of a donation we keep.}
2. Ensuring 100% of meetmagic’s donation ends up with the charity, chosen by the executive taking the meeting
Every startup gets told “No" a lot.
It's hard and I think Australia is typically sceptical of new things generally.
I'm grateful for the "No's" because it's a chance to learn and overcome narratives playing out, but of course, I'm more grateful for the companies and executives that say yes.
Things that are new, need time.
10 years ago, you would not jump into a strangers car and go to work, (Uber) or have a total stranger rent your house out (Airbnb), but things have changed and you don't think twice about doing it now.
Eventually, every business meeting will create a positive social, cultural or environmental impact, because it will become strange that it doesn't.
The next generation of executive in the workforce, be it millennials, or "Zedders', understand this. They get it. They want the world to be better off and will choose IMPACT over SALARY every time.
So that means, soon, there will be no limiting "holding back" mindsets in the corporate world, just huge possibility mindsets and that will help with everything from productivity, wellness and optimal mental health in the workplace.
It will also help with success and influence what we do and how we show up in life.
Wellness - Givers High!
For every CEO today, mental health in the workplace, is a top area of concern. According to a study conducted in the UK, one of the top five factors contributing to lower depression rates is giving to neighbours and communities.
As such, there is a trend away from companies randomly giving on a small scale towards generating a more strategic and long-term impact. These types of altruistic meetings and efforts inside the workplace benefit both the employees as well as employers.
In the US, among employees who participate in workplace volunteer activities, 71 per cent felt better about their employers, and 37 per cent were very satisfied with the progression of their careers. Such engagement leads to improved recruitment and retention.
If this "meeting magic" connected hundreds of thousands of executives around the world for valid conversations that solved business problems and made hundreds of millions of dollars to charities
It would not only mean healthier workplaces, but a sustainable fundraising model created for charities, allowing them to continue to do good work and make the world a better place.
My question.
What are the downsides of this?
