Reason, Season or Lifetime in Marketing

Reason, Season or Lifetime in Marketing

I’ve heard it said that people come into our life for a reason, season or lifetime.

In fact, Brian A. “Drew” Chalker wrote an elegant poem about the idea. (yes, keep reading and I’ll share the poem with you.)

The idea that not everyone comes into our life, stays in our life, is interesting to me.

I even relate it to marketing.

Not all marketing courses, strategies and tactics are here for a lifetime.

Nor should they be.

But how often do we.

:? Cling onto a strategy that some experts claim will ALWAYS work?

? Not let go of what isn’t working because it was the clear winner last year?

? Blindly follow a mentor or coach because they’re the one who already made a difference in our business?

Just like some people are in our life for a lifetime, the foundations of marketing are also in our life for a lifetime.

In the online course world I’m in, and relatable to every other market, is the saying:

Sell them what they want … give them what they need.

Foundations of marketing will always be important.

But …

Strategies like product launches, quizzes, video sales letters, etc are with us for a season.

Eventually the market is flooded with people using them and while they still work, it’s harder to get them to work and the return on them decreases. (credit Rich Schefren for sharing this powerful revelation.)

They are extremely successful only for a season.

And then there are the random moments in a mastermind, course or conversation with a friend that leads to one powerfully insightful aha.

That moment comes for a reason.

When you look at your marketing efforts from this angle you will clarity on where you are following what everyone else is and blending into your market.

You can also identigy areas where you can be different, even do the opposite - and stand out from your competition.

My challenge to you today is to look at your marketing - the courses you take, the experts and gurus you follow, your computer files full of years of training, the people you hang out with …

Are they in your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime?

How can you use that information to make different decisions in your coaching business?

Comment or send me a DM to let me know what you discover.

PS - Here’s the poem:

People always come into your life for a reason, a season and a lifetime.

When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, or to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or even spiritually.

They may seem like a godsend to you, and they are. They are there for a reason, you need them to be. Then, without any wrong doing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.

Sometimes they die, Sometimes they just walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done.

They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season. And like Spring turns to Summer and Summer to Fall, the season eventually ends.

LIFETIME, relationships teach you a lifetime of lessons; those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (anyway);, and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas in your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

Thank you for being part of my life…..
