The Reason Needing A Why For Success Is Total Bulls*it

The Reason Needing A Why For Success Is Total Bulls*it

We're told from every person whom we call successful that in order to succeed one needs a why. They need something to motivate them - a reason that pushes them to continue despite the pain. But that's bulls*it.

I'm not saying I don't respect the people who never stop talking about their why - in fact, I've learnt a lot from some of these individuals. All I'm saying is that the whole notion of needing a why to succeed isn't only untrue, but also limiting.

Have you ever felt lost? Have you ever thought 'I have everything, I should be happy, but I'm not'.

Those feelings come from a lack of vision. They come from having no goal for the future, from living a life where you simply trod along aimlessly. Obviously, we all want to avoid this. Having a why, unfortunately, can in the long term, cause this.

Let me ask you: what happens when you've fulfilled your why? What happens when your why can no longer apply?

If you're doing whatever you're doing to make your family's life easier, if you're doing whatever you're doing to never be weak again, if you're doing what you're doing to change yourself, what happens when your family's life is easier, when you're no longer weak, and when you've changed?

I'll tell you what happens.

You lose your reason to move further ahead. 'I'll just come up with a new why!' Well, you can say that, but it's not that easy. Think about it.

To develop a why - one that pushes you beyond your limits - you need to have a real reason. You need to ingrain that real reason in your mind, over and over, until the emotions behind it become so strong that you're pushed forward. How many strong and meaningful reasons can you find in your life?

Rather than using a why to push you forward, there may be an alternative way.

What To Use For Motivation Instead

What drives a why?

Emotion.

Your why is only your why because it is backed by strong emotions. It is the emotions behind the why that push you forward, and the why that gives us a logical reason to push forward.

What I'm suggesting is, drop the logical reasoning, and just go with the emotions. If you can fuel yourself with emotions, you'll never lose your motivation, because emotions are everlasting and can be called upon at will with practice. On the other hand, your why is contextual, doesn't last, and can limit your decisions as you try to align your decisions with this logic that you've built for yourself. Emotions don't do that. Emotions allow you to be free.

4-Step Process To Call Upon Your Emotions At ANY Time For Fuel

1. You need to call upon an emotion that is going to fuel you. For some, that may be anger, for others, sadness. In order to call upon the emotion that will push you to work hard, close your eyes and re-live through visualisation a time in your life where you felt that particular emotion strongly.

2. As you remember the moment in your life, feel the emotion building up inside of you as the situation in your mind/visualisation unfolds.

3. Once you can clearly feel the emotion, open your eyes and imagine that emotion flowing through your body, like an energy or fire. When you visualise this, you need to visualise it in a way that allows you to picture this emotion as a fire that is burning within you.

4. This should motivate you, however, the trick lies within choosing the right emotion and the right memory to call upon. Some emotions will light a fire inside of you, and some won't. It's up to you to figure out what works and what doesn't for you.

Do you think having a why is a pre-requisite for success?

One thing having a why does to us --> gives us logic behind our motivation and thus rules our decisions in life.?
