Reason #5 - Supervisor Hahn
Elected to the Fourth District in 2016, Supervisor Janice Hahn has established herself as an engaged leader with a passion for supporting the most vulnerable members of our community.
Some might say that public service is in her DNA. As the daughter of the beloved Kenneth Hahn, LA County Supervisor from 1952 to 1992, Supervisor Janice Hahn has known the importance of serving others her entire life. Before being elected to the Board of Supervisors, Janice Hahn served for ten years on the Los Angeles City Council and for five and a half years in Congress. While in Washington, she served on the House Homeland Security Committee, the Committee on Small Business, and the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Supervisor Hahn earned nationwide recognition for founding the PORTS Caucus and recruited over 100 of her fellow House colleagues to advocate for ports issues and infrastructure.
She is well known as a leader on efforts to rebuild our national freight infrastructure system, level the playing field for small business owners, and reduce gang violence in our communities. Her efforts both in Washington and locally to give working men and women living wages, combat gang violence through prevention and intervention programs, and bring green technologies to the Port of Los Angeles, have directly improved the lives of Los Angeles residents and the surrounding communities.
Supervisor Hahn continues to act as a powerhouse of positive change for residents in the Fourth District and across Los Angeles County. This year she helped launch the County’s first Mobile Stroke Unit, a specialized ambulance equipped with a portable CT scanner that allows medical professionals to diagnose and treat strokes in the field. This new technology helps eliminate delays in treatment, which can save lives and prevent or reduce the long-term brain damage associated with strokes. She also has been championing programs to expedite the recovery time of individuals who wander from their families and caregivers due to dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or autism.
Most recently, Supervisor Hahn has been fighting to decriminalize Los Angeles County ExpressLanes and improve the experience for LA residents and tourists alike. Her tireless work to improve equity within our community is making an impact. In fact, on April 26th, the Metro Board of Directors approved her motion directing Metro to study the feasibility of a "pay-as-you-use" model. Drivers rejoice!
