"Rear Cab Clear" - Have you Seen this?
Have you seen a illuminated signal at end of the platform in few London Underground Stations with letter "RCC" ? Yes , this is quiet an interesting concept in London Underground network to manage the demand in the peak hours. RCC means "Rear Cab Clear".
When a train runs into a terminal station, RCC is activated on the platform to inform the new driver (at the other end of the train) that the previous driver is clear of the train and it is safe to depart for new journey. Mainly when dwelling time is narrow (i.e Peak Hours) , this helps the new driver to take the train without talking to the previous driver at the rear especially during peak hours.. In LUL network this system found in few central stations.
RCC Plunger: This is installed on the track side of the platform barrier , so that driver can confirm that he is clear of the cab and the “Step Back” driver who is waiting at the departure end of the train can depart, when the signal clears,
RCC Indicator: This is an indicator when the existing driver activate the RCC Plunger.
The systems saves time, so the new driver can safely and quickly depart without talking to the previous driver and this in effect will meet the time table!
