A Really Wrong Number
I would rather write about Sorry, Wrong Number. What happened to that article on Barbara Stanwyck? She played strong characters. That article probably was inspired because I referred to Sarah Elkins as The Cattle Queen of Montana.
Your stories don't define you... Rather than recalling great connections or seeing what is on TCM tonight, a call came through. Normally I do not answer unrecognizable numbers. Taking a chance, the caller asked to speak with Melvin.
I told him there was no one by that name here. Wrong numbers can be nice. The person apologizes and it is no big thing. The caller pulled off his mask and said "Maybe you can help me. I am calling from a police charity."
I did not listen for the actual name of the imaginary charity. While I support the police and know officers; most of these charities are fraud.
Asking to send information in writing? They will say they won't do that. Illegitimate charity. This man deceived me. Why would he expect me to do business after pretending he wanted to speak to someone else? Let Melvin donate to his scheme. He does not exist. Neither did the charity and all I donated to him was an abrupt hang up. Don't waste my time.
