Is it really working?

Is it really working?

I fairly recently had a conversation with an individual who said to me that they wanted to finish off their diet first before they came and worked with me... I was a little bit taken aback by this.

The reason why was because they were getting good results (losing fat) and therefore it "worked".

When I asked if that current diet would be sustainable for the rest of her life... the gist that I got was that no, she would desert this diet and come to me as the sustainability plan to learn about the how's, what's and the why's of fat loss.

Fair enough, that is the goal of any program I design, for any individual across the board. But what stood out to me and something I want to share with you guys is this...

If it isn't something you can envisage doing for another 5, 10, 20 years or even your whole life... IT ISN'T WORKING!!!

Let's get away from thinking short term! In ten years time are you going to look back and think

"ohhhh remember in April 2019 I did that diet and lost 2 stone"... Probably not, because unfortunately the inevitable will happen once you start eating real food again and getting back to your social life that you put on hold for 2 months!

Let's start thinking about our long term health... What is YOUR future self going to benefit from?

  • an increase in the frequency of movement (greater heart, lung and muscular function)
  • an increase in the quality of this movement (even greater function and a further developed structure)
  • an understanding of what the food we eat does to the body from a fat loss/fat gain perspective (so you NEVER have weight issues again... or at least you know how to combat this if it were to happen)
  • an understanding of what each of the nutrients do for the body from a performance perspective (do I want to; think clearer, move faster, or recover quicker)

And what does a fad diet NOT really do for your future self?

  • All of the above

Will it get you results? Possibly. That just depends on what you would perceive as "results". Because I personally wouldn't see reducing your waist by 3 inches for a period of just 2 months to be so.

When assessing which route to go in the pursuit of a better body, improved health, increased strength etc. take a step back and think... in ten years time, what am I going to look back upon and think...

That was the best decision for my health that I ever made

Because I can guarantee (or at least I hope), that a fad diet won't come in to the equation!

Nourish the body with good food!

Move often and move well!

Say no to fast unsustainable results and having to deal with the inevitable disappointment.

Say yes to learning, discovering, smashing personal bests and long term happiness!

Yours in health
