Really?!?!

He's been after me to connect with him online and to schedule a virtual meeting with him... claiming all along that it's in my best interest to hear him out for the sake of developing my business and making me more money.?
And, although I've been repeatedly telling him that what he's trying to offer me is not something I need, nevertheless, I still gave him the opportunity to be heard out.?
So, we finally held this virtual meeting that he'd been dying to hold with me for some time.
After the typical fake greetings from his side, his first question for me was:
"So, Mr.Samir, why are you reaching out to us, and how did you hear about us?"
For a few seconds, I was speechless as I was in shock.
I was like "Really???"
You've literally been begging me to connect with you and now, the minute I give you a chance to talk to me, you turn things around and you claim that I'm the one wanting to reach out to you? Wow!!!
So, of course, I had to straighten things out and I made sure to remind him that he's the one who's been running after me and not the other way around. Anyways, I could tell right away that my comment threw him off and he could not follow through reading the script off his monitor in front of him.?
Fortunately, I abruptly ended my meeting with him.
So, here's a message to all so-called "salespeople" specifically to those who are out there prospecting.?

1. Forget about that stupid script the company provides you with. The script is there to make you understand what you need to address during your sales pitch and to make sure you cover everything you need to talk about. Read it well, understand it thoroughly, and believe, most importantly, in what you're talking about. Then, come up with your own version that you can communicate from the heart and not from the damn monitor in front of you.?If you are not a firm believer in what you're offering and selling, you probably ain't gonna sell anything!
2. Sales is all about "Knowing your product, knowing your customer, and knowing yourself." This is what my beautiful wife, Lama, preaches at all times. When you repeatedly hear from the customer that your product is not what your customer is looking for, you need to step out of your comfort zone and try to "creatively" figure out how your product or service might actually be a need to your customer after all. You see, a lot of times, customers might definitely not know what they want or even need. That's where you come into the picture and become their advisor.?
3. Professional selling requires you to become an advisor and not the typical pushy salesperson. Get that sales mentality shit out of your head and work on yourself to become an advisor! Your job is not to sell but to actually help people buy. Customers would surely listen to you as an advisor when they feel that you're there for them, for their own sake, and not for your damn pocket. This kind of attitude will only make you look like nothing but a typical pushy and desperate salesperson.
4. Go out there and be different. Believe in your product or service and believe and work on yourself. Sales is definitely one of the toughest professions out there, and no, not anyone and everyone can do it.

5.... More to come at a later stage :)?
Overall, am I bothered with such an experience? Of course not. Au contraire mes amis. I just love such situations to bring up and discuss in my Selling Skills training courses.
Good bye for now :) :) :)
All the way from my home-tree office in Aytat, Mount Lebanon with love :)

1 年Immediately as I read this post, I perceived that this sales pitch gone awry would become an object lesson in your valuable training seminars! ?? At least you endured this scenario, Samir, in your fabulous tree house office. ??

1 年I really enjoyed reading (as always) the educating stories, but I was waiting (imagining DEATH ON THE NILE) to reveal the "HE" at the end... Probably within the next episode!
