They really don't.

They really don't.

Nobody cares how grammatically perfect or imperfect the job starter was.

Nobody cares how many meetings there were, or how painfully long they were.

Nobody cares about the focus group results or how many peanut M&Ms you ate behind the mirror or how out of date Ed’s shirt from the second group was.

Nobody cares who came up with the idea or that you changed “your” to “the” in the headline.

Nobody cares how many typefaces or different shades of magenta you considered.

Nobody cares how many miles you drove or red-eyes you took or soccer goals you missed or concepts you generated.

Nobody cares what the creative director or the creative director’s mom thought.

Nobody cares if it won a local ADDY.

Nobody out there driving their cars or glancing at Flipboard or watching their evening TV allotment cares about the “branding process.”

All they care about is the ad.

Did it strike a nerve or not? That's all that matters.

Advertising world is going back to it's original roots 'Print" by mail. It is impossible to reach middle aged cable cutters through newspapers or magazines, TV or even social media. Aggressive filtering of all commercial content as "spam" and "unwanted" in reality removes large segment of population from the "main" grid. Their children have no clue of a new toys. Their parents are not aware of new and improved products. I would need 3 pages to discuss implications.

All those bullet points are hidden inside the 'that' of: "That's all that matters".

True. But if the maker of that ad doesn't care because nobody does then it doesn't stand a chance of being noticed. Did I even make sense?

Absolutely, the only people that care about advertising is advertising people. Similarly, I was watching the Pacific Rim trailer. Looks really good, but people don't care about the hours or years that it took to make it. All they could say was Power Rangers+Transformers+Godzilla =Pacific Rim. It was a bit sad, that work that is so lovingly made to entertain the masses is oversimplified as something that anyone could do. Really sad.
