The Reality Vs Fantasy Of Being An Entrepreneur With Sade Salami
“I don't believe in cheat codes. You need to work smart. There's no shortcut through the grinds, you have to grind to get there. You just do.??” - Sade Salami.?
Getting a proper hang of the reality and fantasy of being an entrepreneur is easier said than experienced. With “entrepreneurship becoming fashionable”, we would agree that there are a lot of factors encapsulated in the thin line between the reality and fantasy of being an entrepreneur.?
In this episode of Everyday Leadership Podcast, my guest is Sade Salami, a business owner who owns chains of businesses. She is the founder of Fresh Strawberry, which is an events company. She is also a co-founder of Everyday Froday, a clothing brand, and Natural Style Stories.
We talked about leading yourself, learning to talk to yourself & trusting your gut, developing trust in a team, building character in the next generation, how to become an entrepreneur and lots more.
“I'm doing this business. It has to have a meaning behind it. If I’m posting something and spending the time, it has to have meaning behind it, which I think is what actually sets you apart and helps you have that longevity. Because a lot of time, if it's all about me and bringing that attention to me and there's no value behind it, that's going to come and go.”
Key Takeaways
??Work-life balance for entrepreneurs
“You’re talking about life-work balance and everything like that and it's not very popular, but I think it's really difficult. I think it's ideology. It's an ideology that to have a perfect work-life balance when you're an entrepreneur because it's virtually impossible, and to kind of put that pressure on people to have that also while trying to achieve something, I think it's a bit damaging, to be honest.”
???Learning to talk to yourself & trust your gut
“So, there's not always many people to talk to so you have to do your kind of conversations with yourself sometimes, do you know what I mean? You really have to. When you're the person in charge, you have to make some very tough decisions. I think you have to trust your gut, which I think feeds into that whole self-awareness thing.”
????????How to develop trust in your team
领英推荐
“Wow. How do you develop trust? I think in the beginning you just have to give it. I think you just have to give it and then it's almost like you work out what can I trust this person to do or what can I trust them for? But only over time are you going to see what are the best skills, where do they flourish and that sort of thing...”
?? Just doing it
“Just do it. You just literally have to do it. Whatever that voice is telling you, "Oh no, you need another iteration of this plan or whatever,” you just have to ignore that because if you don't have a finished product or you're not producing something, it's not done. It's still just a plan.”
This interesting and interactive session with Sade made me understand what it means to be an entrepreneur and the factors attached to being one. It is a must-listen-to podcast for everyone.??
