REALITY CHECK ON THE EFFICACY OF SELF OR CORPORATE IMPROVEMENT
Peter Bromley
YOU ARE FAR GREATER THAN YOU KNOW. We are illumined by consciousness and eclipsed by unconsciousness. We dissolve the eclipse. The results? You know what it means to be fully human. Hence, high performance, peace
A notice today from a prestigious university offers a "Leadership and Ethics" program. Though I'm sure it's well intended, (and timely revenue generator) it will most likely not generate desired outcomes: leaders who embody values, ethics and related imperatives.
Business spends trillions on improvement courses of all sorts. It mindfulnesses, mindsets, hacks, apps, postures, roll plays, culture changes, values binges, outdoor retreats, and much, much more.
Few are efficacious over the long term. Their impact is limited because of my comment below to the institution.
A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD (AND PROGRAM)
It's madness trying to tame madness. Our minds are too agitated with unconscious stuff, a rat's wheel of incessant fears and desires. Any program must reorient one's relationships to one mind, see the addiction (to that unconscious material), learn about a new, but powerful muscle (the subtle intellect) and build that muscle to guide and harness the indiscriminate mind.
You can appreciate a number of things:
1) That takes time
2) It's very tricky, difficult to teach: qualified teachers are rare, though many souls pretend well. (Hint: one way to sort them is to discern who's in it for money and fame and who is teaching - humbly - to contribute)
3) The source materials must be from a proven means of self knowledge
Those qualifications and realities are not appealing to even the most prestigious institutions
Now, my comment to the institution....
"Unless one has a burning desire for self knowledge - to know what it means to be fully human - courses like these will fail to be efficacious over the long term.
Self knowledge must come first. This program and its ilk later. Too much early conditioning - unconsciousness - obliterates the value of the initiative, no matter how worthy it and the presenter is."
BE AND DO
You must be all of you before doing anything. (Or, at least commit to both simultaneously.)
