Real World Data Insights, Market Opportunities for Minor Cannabinoids

There’s so much we can learn from Real World Data. The more we collect at MoreBetter, Ltd. , the more I like to nerd out.

I’m really interested in the energy and focus space. I’d love a natural and healthy supplement that gives me more energy throughout the day and boosts my focus.

It’s not something that I need. Which is one of the reasons I stay away from adderall and other energy drinks. They aren’t healthy, and since I don’t really need them it never made sense for me to take them.

But who wouldn’t want more energy and focus?

Whether you’re studying for a test, avoiding a mid-day slump, getting ready for a big game, or have a busy day with the kids. A healthy and effective way to increase energy and focus seems great.

Needless to say, I was excited to see the results from campaigns we did with brands on this topic.

THCV for Energy and Focus

For the past year or so THCV has been the buzz word in cannabis.

It’s the hot-new cannabinoid that most brands are trying to add to their product catalog and find the best way to market.

Most brands have no idea why you should use THCV and/or how to market it.

Some say it helps with weight loss.

Some say it helps with fatigue.

There’s some evidence that shows it helps with diabetes (see below).

Depending on who you ask I’m sure you’ll hear a few other reasons why you should use it.

Since THCV has not been widely available until recently, the data on it is limited. There are some studies.

This study, which used rodents, found that THCV had therapeutic benefits for the management of obesity and diabetes.

And this study, back in 2016, also looked at the efficacy of THCV for diabetes.

These are limited insights given how widely available THCV is now. Both online from hemp-derived CBD brands, and in state regulated dispensaries.

Real World Data on THCV use and performance

To our knowledge, we worked with brands to collect the first ever Real World Dataset on the use and performance of THCV products from hundreds of individuals. Specifically, two different products, with different formulations, and different consumers.

About the data.

Around 400 individuals participated in two different 30 day campaigns.

They answered daily questions. For the first week, the daily questions were about their day without using the THCV product. The following three weeks the same daily questions were asked along with questions about their use of the THCV product that day.

Every week we used standardized questionnaires to collect more validated data on the performance and effects of THCV for specific use cases: Fatigue and Appetite Suppression.

What does Real World Data say about THCV and energy?

One of the more interesting findings was the positive impact THCV seemed to have on an individual's energy levels.

In one campaign there was over a 30% increase in reported daily energy levels when using THCV compared to not.

At the end of the same campaign, over 50% of individuals said they noticed an increase in their energy levels when using the THCV product.

In the second campaign, during the week individuals were not using the THCV product, 39% reported they had enough energy for their everyday life after work. While using the THCV product, 76% of individuals reported they had enough energy for their everyday life after work.

That’s almost double the amount of people.

When it came to individuals feeling mentally exhausted after work, 80% reported feeling so during the week they were not using the product. This dropped to 41% of participants while using the THCV product.

Needs and Opportunities for Real World Data

These datasets provide some evidence on the potential use cases for THCV.

More studies are needed (and personally I’d love to see them on this topic) to further validate or invalidate what’s here. After all, this is the first Real World Data collected on THCV.

This is one of the benefits of collecting Real World Data the right way. It can inform and help jumpstart more rigorous research.

If anyone wanted to run a blinded and/or placebo controlled study on THCV for energy, there’s now Real World Data from a few hundred individuals to help inform the protocol. Saving both time and money, while validating the need for the study.

This isn’t just a cannabis thing.

Across the entire health & wellness industry, product innovation is miles ahead of science, research, and education.

Having the right systems in place to collect Real World Data as you bring new products and formulations to market can benefit consumers, brands, researchers, regulators, and everyone in between.
