Is it really that hard, or that easy, to learn data science? Some rally that data science is an elitist field, only to be pursued by the most sophisticated of thinkers, and only after many years of toiling away in studies. Others believe that data science is nothing all that new – and that it really is not that hard to learn. If you have a clear head on your shoulders and are willing to work hard, then you can get there without too much effort. The discussion is much akin to the “Real vs Fake Data Scientists” debate that there’s been so much of. Who’s correct and who’s full of crap? That’s the topic of today’s blog post.

8 年Shea Kennedy Think you would like Lillian's articles :) Lillian, my sister recently graduated from Boulder with her Master's in Economics and she has a love for Data/Stats. She is searching for a company to help her grow and establish a career working with machine learning/AI - Banking/Risk - perhaps a data analyst... she would love to become a Data scientist. Would you have any recommendations for her resources, companies, guidance for someone that is both brilliant and breaking into the industry (yes, I am a proud big sister- I can't help it!). I have been recommending that she find a mentor in her field, but I haven't a clue where to guide her. I work with a company that has a platform for Vets and Military Spouses and it really helps when folks transition to civilian life. Thinking maybe there is one for this field of study? After graduation or for women in tech? Does anyone have any recommendations for maybe even a dedicated LinkedIn group out or website/chat forum? The depths of my knowledge with this is - unfortunately - is pretty shallow.
