Real Time in Real Time
Unity3D and Unreal game engines represent the absolute leading edge of real time technologies for visualization, vr, game development, and now most recently, augmented reality development. The push on so many fronts at once simply has to be staggering for both Unity and Epic to maintain and grow within. Although Epic has been around much longer than Unity, the competition is fierce, and the most recent results from both companies are nothing less than amazing.
The pace at which both the technology as well as the market demands for the technology to improve are exponentially increasing on a daily basis. Every industry wants to apply this technology for visualization into their work flow, marketing, product development, surgery, and so on. The list is growing as more and more people begin to realize that real time technology is here to stay, and they understand ways that they can leverage it within their industries. Both Unity and Unreal have released case studies focusing on the automobile industry in terms of marketing. Each of these studies take manufacturer's CAD data and visualize it within their engines for particular end results.
For Unity, the resulting piece is a real time rendered video for Lexus. It showcases their abilities with third party technology, to utilize CAD data directly into the engine, for some fairly amazing results. As a film maker, it's nice to see their process going directly to render without the need for additional post effects processing. Unreal's case study was basically a media agency REWIND's testimonial for creating a real time VR experience for Infinity with staggering amounts of data moving around in real time, and in an experiential capacity. Both of these cases are drops of water in what will be an ocean of real time content development for enterprise level end uses. Hang on, Real Time is just getting interesting.
