Real-Talk on Resolutions
Sarah Shoulak
I help solve professional problems creatively and creative problems professionally.
We're headed right for it - the dreaded end of the year where we have to needlessly introspect to figure out which areas of our lives we're going to vow to change.
Whether you're a master tracker with gold stars and reward systems or you just set a general goal to keep you "directionally correct," this time of year can feel heavy. What makes the cut? How do you celebrate your wins? How can you tell that it's working?
In my experience, the more honest with you are with yourself, the easier it becomes to answer those questions. Are you working towards the goal of a dream title or salary? Are you working to meet the expectations of your boss or someone else you're trying to impress? The more our "why" relies on external factors, the harder it is to track and quantify.
You have to start with YOU.
Really down deep ~ what do you want? Who are you trying to become? What type of legacy do you want to leave? The more our goals connect to our own selves and the things we can change and track with more certainty than assumptions, the more likely we are to feel success and fulfillment in achieving them.
That's why I'm not only starting before the holiday madness kicks off, but I'm also starting by walking the walk.
I wanted to use this new Newsletter tool that LinkedIn rolled out to share these thoughts with you as part of my own "shift." It's long been a goal of mine to do more writing, share more insights, and be more real on social media than just sharing pictures and reposting other people's content.

Like many, the over-thinking and wondering about the strategy and perfect timing of it all got in the way. This is the big band-aid rip of 2023; I'm done procrastinating. Here I am, I'm reintroducing myself.
Usually, my professional updates (like on the Orlando Voyager and Bold Journey) have centered around my sobriety, my educational path, or the variety of industries I've worked in within my short career. I want to change the narrative and focus more in 2024 on the lessons I've learned along the way and the skills that have been pivotal in keeping me on this path.
I'd also love to hear from you if you have examples of life lessons or life skills that serve you every day. So many people can to obsess over youth, but I think there is such richness in the wisdom that comes with age and experience.
Thank you for reading this and experiencing this journey with me. I can't wait to share more content with you all and hopefully make you stop and think about all you've achieved as well!
Sending love through the holidays and new year ahead.
Best,
