The real state of corporate cybersecurity, and how to level up your LinkedIn profile.

If you've been a tech.co reader for a while, you'll know that one thing we talk a lot about is cybersecurity. From reporting on the latest data breaches, to telling companies how they can secure their data, it's a daily mantra that we're unlikely to ever stop repeating.

So, we were curious what the current state of workplace security was - so much so, we commissioned a survey to find out. As part of the wider Impact of Technology on the Workplace report, we were fairly shocked at what we found.

Let's start with the less surprising revelations. We learned that phishing attacks were the top reason for data breaches last year. It's common knowledge that humans are the weakest chain in any security system, which is why phishing attacks work, and are so prevalent.

But how about this - 11% of the companies that we spoke to said they were unsure if their company had had a data breach or not. That's the same as being unsure if your house has been broken into.?

26% of those that we spoke to told us that they weren't confident about their company's ability to defend against a data breach, which doesn't inspire confidence, especially when you consider the sensitive data many of these companies are storing.

The results of our survey have certainly proved eye-opening, and confirmed that we're right to never stop reminding people about the importance of data security...
