The Real Solution to Finding Your People

I hear so many motivational speakers talk about the importance of finding the right people to surround yourself with. They say, "Join a golf club or a networking organization," or "Join a Facebook group." But let's get real—golf clubs cost a lot of money that many of us don't have. Networking groups often don't hit all of our needs, and Facebook groups? They're a minefield of spam. So what's the real solution to finding the people you need to surround yourself with?
Let me introduce you to the concept of being proactive on social media.
Seriously, I want you to take some time and write some notes. Grab a pen and paper right now. List where you went to college, what non-profits you're potentially interested in, your current hobbies, childhood hobbies, your dream hobby, and activities you think you want to try. Once you have that list, you've just created your "hit list."
Now, start researching those words on social media. Use filters to narrow it down to where you live. As you begin this research, you'll start finding people who do those activities in your town. Your assignment? Reach out to each one and learn more about how they got involved in local activities. Guess what? You just got a lead, and you're in the process of making a friend.

Don't underestimate the value of joining non-profits that align with your interests. Non-profits based on topics you're passionate about can provide a wealth of opportunities to meet like-minded individuals. Whether it's environmental causes, animal rights, health advocacy, or community service, these organizations are filled with people who share your values and can become a crucial part of your support network.
This isn't about sitting back and waiting for the right people to come to you. This is about taking action. Be proactive. Make connections. Engage. You're not just finding new friends; you're building a network of like-minded individuals who share your passions and interests.
So, the next time someone tells you to join a golf club or a Facebook group, smile and remember—you have a better strategy. Take control of your social circle by being proactive on social media and through non-profits, and watch how your life transforms.
