Real
I noticed this Fast Company story (below) as I was listening to music out loud (as my mom would have said) over real speakers in my office today (Phish, Prince Caspian from Billy Breathes) through Snell speakers powered by my McIntosh amp (which is no-doubt older than half the people on the Internet).
Recently I was asked by the founder of an artificial Intelligence company what the most profound thing I have seen lately is? I quickly said, "The more things become digital in our lives the more important the physical things become." I love paper and have always enjoyed a great notebook. The Fast Company story below talks about the trend of people going back to paper planners. Why not? They are portable, easy access and high resolution. More importantly, they feel real in a world where real has become digital in too many ways.
Don't get me wrong. I'm as big a technology geek as you may know. I'm sitting in front of my 17" MAC (the other Macintosh in my life) with two monitors (one better for photo editing - that's my excuse anyhow) an iPhone and iPad (with an Apple Pencil) on my desk. Yet, my Levenger notepad and Moleskine notebook are sitting closer to me than anything but my keyboard and mouse (not to mention the collection of pens and pencils that complement them). Why? Because they feel real. After all, more than anything, we are real!
Would two weeks of writing everything down improve your life?

7 年I've always hoped there would be a really decent digital paper solution that would offer the best of both experiences. There are many good digital pens with OCR that once the meeting is over you can plug it into your PC and transfer into programs like One Note. There are tablets and phones, most notably (pun intended) the Samsung Note line. But, I found it was distracting for other meeting attendees in the same way taking notes on a PC in a meeting was distracting. People tend to think your surfing the web or playing a game. digital paper wirelessly connected to your One Note app, taking content real time would be cool. Maybe they have it already.

7 年I have a family of Apple products to depend on but love beautiful stationary products especially from Russell + Hazel. A nice notebook and pen says I am a thinker, an artist, a manager and perhaps most importantly someone with a flexible aesthetic.

7 年It's funny, but I too love technology. Wait until you see what I can do with Google Home and a smart hub...but when I take notes in a meeting, I need to write them and process my thoughts along with them. There is also a trend to hide behind technology. Too many internet bullies that would never have the courage to be that way face to face. There will always be a need for both you need to know you 1st and make technology work for you. It should never be the other way around.

7 年Agree Ron! Exactly why in a world of virtual meetings and webinars, I'm choosing to lead BE BOLD Seminars as "Up Close & Personal" - intimate, live, in-person experiences.
