“I don’t have time to promote my company.”
“I’m too busy to write content.”
“My social media posts just don’t resonate.”
“I don’t like talking about my services online.”
"People will think I'm bragging."
Sound familiar? These are the many reasons I hear from entrepreneurs as to why they’re not showing up on LinkedIn.
The result? Low sales, no inquiries from potential clients, and posts that barely get a reaction or comment.
It’s easy to blame the platform. “LinkedIn doesn’t work. It’s pointless to post anything.” But let’s pause for a moment. At what point does one turn the finger inwards and take ownership for the reasons mentioned?
My opinion... These are actually decisions not to show up for the business.
The Boundary You’re Unintentionally Building
When you choose not to take action on LinkedIn, you’re creating a barrier between your services and the people who need them most. By not showing up consistently on LinkedIn, you’re limiting your visibility and, ultimately, your sales.
As entrepreneurs, we wear many hats. The marketing of our brand is often an ill-fitting one.
Budgeting for a digital marketer or hiring a team isn't feasible for many. But can you find room in your finances for a contractor to take on a small project? Like creating affordable graphics? Can you carve out time each week to learn how to engage with your audience effectively?
Successful entrepreneurs know their limits. They stay in their zone of genius and get help where they need it—whether that’s hiring someone or investing in guidance or training.
My Past Struggle with “Not Showing Up Consistently On Social Media”
Early in my entrepreneurial journey, I fell into the trap of thinking I could handle it all. I’d write a post here, skip a week there, and wonder why no one was engaging with my content. I was frustrated and convinced that social media wasn’t for me.
Then I did something uncomfortable. I looked inward. Instead of blaming the algorithm, I asked myself, “How am I showing up on LinkedIn?” I wasn’t consistent. I wasn’t connecting with my audience. I wasn't networking. I wasn’t clear about how my services could solve their problems.
So, I made a plan. I started small, and began focusing on content that resonated with my audience. Over time, I saw results. Engagement grew, inquiries trickled in, and eventually, my business transformed.
The “Sexy” Myth of DIY Marketing
Online courses! There's the plethora of them with promises to move us with ease from accountant, business coach or therapist and turn us into the online marketer extraordinaire. It's is like a romantic fairytale. Unfortunately, it's really a sad country song that always ends with not enough time, not feeling seen and no one reaching out.
Courses sound tempting. But here’s the truth: most solopreneurs don’t finish the courses they buy. Life gets in the way. The skills don’t stick. And without action, nothing changes.
So, how can you reframe the reasons as to why your LinkedIn marketing isn't working into tangible decisions that are helpful for your business? Marketing isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up authentically and consistently. It’s about being visible so your audience knows you’re there to help them.
The Choice Is Yours
You can choose to stay frustrated, wondering why no one’s reaching out to you on LinkedIn. Or you can take the first step. Maybe it’s outsourcing one task, like creating a content calendar. Maybe it’s learning how to write posts that truly connect. Whatever it is, take action.
Because the truth is, LinkedIn Marketing works when you work it. You got to show up.
