When one thinks of the NEWS, most will probably say, it is about the current events of the day? Thanks to technology, HOW we receive the news has evolved; it is delivered via the TV, Radio, Online, Social Media, Publications, Newspapers and Word of Mouth.
The NEWS has also morphed from traditional Journalism where a reporter learned everything from working in a newsroom to actually finding the stories - sources and information to share with the public - to presenting and sharing through various mediums and platforms. The REAL NEWS was once viewed as totally reliable, honest, transparent and non-partisan. T.V.'s were turned on at the end of the day for a compilation of the events. In 1988, in Atlanta, Georgia the first 24 hour news program CNN was launched and from that day on, the news mold was broken.
Fast forward to TODAY and there is a distinct difference in the delivery of the news, the platforms that are utilized and the information that is shared. President Donald Trump was the first to call out much of the mainstream media as FAKE NEWS. These past four years and especially during COVID and the Presidential Election one could easily agree. Much of what is reported is based on political biases - untrue information - anonymous sources, unverified reports and the desire to "take sides". There are sources that assist us in determining and consuming a balanced media diet and the source my Women's Leadership LIVE Partner, Stacey Schieffelin and I recommend is All Sides Media. They provide a complete list of all major media outlets and where they fall in regard to Liberal Centered and Conservative.
This past week has been a roller coaster in regard to the NEWS and none more so than the reports beginning on election night. As a huge fan of FOX NEWS and especially Tucker Carlson, Judge Jeanine, The Five, Stewart Varney and Maria Bartiromo it is obvious the reporting this past week have proven to me that Fox who is controlled by the Murdoch Family has taken a severe leap (in my opinion off the cliff) and their viewers are turning OFF FOX. For the first time in years, Fox viewership was vastly below that of CNN and MSNBC and it will be interesting to see if those viewers return?
To my last point, what does the NEWS look like moving forward? Securing information, staying abreast of current events, understanding what is happening on the global front are all critical and yet - HOW and WHERE we consume our information has expanded. We are no longer bound to stay with the traditional media if you will. Some might think I only want one viewpoint but that is so far from the truth. What I want is facts and data to support the story being shared and thus, I am currently tuning in to OAN One America News and RSB Right Side Broadcasting where our good friend Brian Glenn is reporting. Both of these news outlets provide high quality programming and are real, on the ground and sound alternatives to the mainstream media. I don't want "Talking Points", I want honest reporting that challenges me, gives me food for thought AND I can verify.
Looking to the Future - WHAT Will The NEWS Look Like and WHERE Will the Public Tune In?
That our friends will be an interesting journey to watch!

4 年I majored in journalism in 1986-1990. What I see of journalism today does not resemble what I studied or interned. We were taught to dig deep for the facts and present them without bias, allowing the public (and commenters and talk show hosts or whomever) to enter into conversations and make decisions based on the information. We seem to have very few journalists anymore, but instead have ?infotainers. Our newsrooms are run by money, power, greed and ultimately the bias that gets them those things. In some ways I wish I would have gone into my chosen field and in other ways I am glad I didn’t. Talk about needing to drain a swamp...

4 年When I taught World Geography we used a ton of BBC.com and NPR. It seems when the people reporting the news doesn’t have a stake in what they are reporting it gets more like it used to be where the reporter is neutral. NPR has always been a great source of news. I typically do not agree that all news in our country is Fake as Trump has said over and over. I think if you report things he doesn’t want to hear he calls you fake news. I also hate how he has acted to reporters. Calling them names and mocking them is not the way anyone should behave let alone the President of the USA. But that is my opinion.?
